WINNERS SELECTED IN "MOVIE ALBUM" REVIEW CONTEST; EXCERPTS FEATURED IN NEW YORKER MAGAZINE AD
Linda Goldstone of Larkspur, California and Danny Gerstein of
Portsmouth, New Hampshire have been selected winners of a national
contest conducted by Sony Music Entertainment in which hundreds of fans
submitted reviews of Barbra Streisand's "The Movie Album." Excerpt
quotes from the winners' submissions will be featured alongside those
from famed national critics Liz Smith and Joel Siegel in an ad
appearing in the end-of-April issue of The New Yorker Magazine.
Streisand, who was not a judge in the contest, noted that, had she been,
"I would not have been able to decide. Each entry was elegant and
gracious and had true critical merit. I'm not in the habit of reading
all of the media reviews, but the thoughts that were submitted - the
thoughts of the people I make records for - were very meaningful to me
and touched me deeply."
Peter Fletcher, Senior VP of Marketing for Sony Music, commented that
"there was a flood of rave media reviews for this album, but we thought
it would be fun to let the fans try their hand at it and to let the winners
see their words in a major national publication."
The New Yorker ad celebrates the continuing success of "The Movie Album,"
which is already certified both Gold and Platinum, and the "Barbra, The Concert"
DVD which debuted at #3 recently.

A NOTE FROM BARBRA...
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have so kindly
sent in your reviews of "The Movie Album." I'm reading each of them in its
entirety, not just the shortened version on the website, and I want to say
very personally how humbled I am by the eloquence and graciousness of your
response. They all touch me very deeply. I'm not in the habit of reading all of the
media reviews, but your thoughts - the thoughts of the people I make records
for - are very meaningful to me...thank you.
Respectfully and with love,
Barbra
