The newest additions to Janis Joplin's catalog are Expanded Edition reissues of some of her all-time classic albums and a Limited Edition boxed set:

Janis Joplin issued four legendary studio albums during her short career. These albums: "Big Brother and the Holding Company," "Cheap Thrills," "I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama!," and "Pearl," have been expanded and enhanced for reissue along with her best-selling "Greatest Hits." Each one has been remastered and includes bonus tracks--most of them previously unreleased.

A very special collection has also been released --- "Box of Pearls--The Janis Joplin Collection" is a limited edition 5-CD box that contains each of the four studio albums listed above plus a fifth bonus EP--"Rare Pearls"---that contains 5 never before released tracks! "Rare Pearls" is only available in the "Box of Pearls" collection!

In the tradition of Legacy's critically acclaimed Expanded Edition series (Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, The Byrds), these reissued masterpieces include all of the original music and album artwork and feature new liner notes written by noted journalists, unpublished photos, and of course, unreleased bonus tracks!

Each album has been digitally mastered from the original source tapes for stunning sound quality. The production of each album was overseen by reissue maven Bob Irwin, the mastering was done by Vic Anesini at Sony Music Studios in NYC, and the entire project has been pain stakingly completed with the consultation and full approval of the Joplin estate.

The legend begins here. 1966. Big Brother and the Holding Company was the house band at The Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco--playing instrumental, jam style, acid rock. Chet Helms, Big Brother's manager, having heard Janis Joplin's unmistakable voice several years earlier, asked Janis--then in Austin--to come join the band. Something clicked. These are the magical first recorded performances of Janis Joplin, who was about to skyrocket to the top.

CHEAP THRILLS

After an appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, Janis Joplin and Big Brother found themselves in the national limelight with a big-time manager and a recording contract with Columbia Records. This is their classic. Released in 1968, Cheap Thrills became a #1 album and sold over a million copies. This is the album that cemented Janis Joplin's status as the first true female rock superstar.

Less than a year after their first #1 album, Janis Joplin and guitarist Sam Andrew left Big Brother and formed a new band with a more soulful feel--The Kozmic Blues Band was born. This was the next step in Janis's musical evolution and the result of her conscious decision to find her own sound. This was the band that Janis brought to Woodstock and on her first and only tour of Europe. Janis' star continued to rise---I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! hit #5 on the Top Album chart.

Released shortly after her death, this was Janis' final studio effort, and perhaps her most mature, diverse and realized recording. Janis Joplin went out in a blaze of glory--at the top. Pearl topped the album charts at #1, and also yielded Janis' only #1 single, the classic "Me and Bobby McGee". Pearl is a true classic from a legendary artist.
