The first soundtrack to bring together the brightest lights from the new era of postgangsta hip-hop and neo-R&B, LOVE JONES - THE MUSIC includes; a new recording by Dionne Farris ("Hopeless"); the first taste of the Refugee Camp All-Stars (featuring Lauryn Hill on "The Sweetest Thing" and presenting Melky and Day on "I Got A Love Jones For You"); an alternative version of Maxwell's "Sumthin' Sumthin'"; and songs by Marcus Miller & Me'Shell NdegeOcello ("Rush Over"), Groove Theory ("Never Enough"), Cassandra Wilson ("You Move Me"), the Brand New Heavies ("I Like It"), and more. Rounding out the mix are two new classic jazz recordings - "Jelly, Jelly" performed by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and Duke Ellington & John Coltrane's recording of "In A Sentimental Mood" - and two spoken word pieces from the film.
Written and directed by first timer Theodore Withcer, love jones deftly captures the rhythms of modern courtship, breaking away from the stereotyped portrayals of African American life to instead focus on a world seldom seen in cinema: young, intelligent black men and women discovering that you should never underestimate the power of a "love jones."
