What an awesome show. Eddie came out before the show started, and hid behind an amplifier. Only problem was everyone saw him!!

Great set starting with Oceans, what a surprise, we were all expecting Release. Straight into Go, Last Exit, Spin, Tremor Christ, Animal. Eddie then eventually says, "hi Perth," then goes, "Me and Stone here were expecting to find waves at your beaches, and you have nuthin!" The crowd sorta went - hang on here. Then Eddie jokingly says, "Hey, how do you think the beach feels about having no waves!!" A classic moment.

I had by now made my way to the front of the crowd, and I was hanging over the railing, looking straight up at Eddie. The band then launched into an extended version of Corduroy, Not For You, and the then new song Lukin, which had differing lyrics to the eventual version on No Code. They played a few more, then Jeff started his classic intro to Jeremy. The crowd went wild, and I was at the front of it all!! Then as they approach the second verse, Jeff and Eddie do their now famous lean onto each other. What a sight, with me standing right below them. There was a moment there where I could have sworn that Eddie looked right down at me, while singing. It was close on the highlight of the concert. They belted out a few more classics before walking off.

They shortly came back and played Daughter which leaded into Another Brick in the Wall the famous Pink Floyd song, and then lead into Little Wing the Hendrix classic, which sounds a lot like Yellow Ledbetter. Then, Eddie sees this chick in the crowd holding a huge sign which said "BLACK" in large dark letters. So Eddie says "This next one is for that girl right there," of course every girl in the whole place started screaming as Stone strummed the first E chord of Black. This song went forever. As the song closed, Eddie grabbed his guitar, and played Better Man, an amazingly emotional version.

Once finished, Eddie goes "This next one ain't mine" and launched into a hyper-active version of Let My Love Open the Door by Pete Townshend. They then walked off again. Then a few moments later, just Mike, Eddie and Jeff came back on to play the song I had waited for all night - Yellow Ledbetter. An awesome finish to an awesome night. This one night with Pearl Jam has definitely been one of the best of my life, and I look forward to seeing them in Sydney on March 9, 1998.
