November 17 Budapest show review
by: Marko Porobija (Mario.Porobija@ci.tel.hr)

poster I came to Budapest all the way from Croatia only for one reason...PEARL JAM...YES! The day I was awaiting since 1991 has come. On 17th of November 1996, I was in Budapest, awaiting Eddie, Mike, Stone, Jeff and Jack. I was never so happy in my life as I was when I saw them arriving on the stage. They opened with a great tune from No Code, Sometimes. (which of 102 songs they played till now isn't great?) In the beginning it was a usual concert, "nothing special" would say non-Pearl Jam fan if he saw the first 15 minutes...but then it started...the flood of emotions...it was first felt on Rearviewmirror...Eddie was jumping on the stage, almost trashing his guitar...but the real burst was on Daughter, one of my top favs. At the end of the song, Eddie didn't stop, but he continued to yell out his famous 'ooh' sounds, inviting the crowd to do that...and so, 15,000 people were yelling out...and didn't stop until the end... My special moment was when they started to play my top, top fav song 'State of Love and Trust'. I was in the back row at the time, resting and drinking beer...but the same moment I heard the opening riff, I jumped on the crowd, and they were carrying me throughout the hall for 5 minutes. I was in heaven.

After Alive they went off stage...but they couldn't hold on...they felt that fans wanted to listen to more of the most beautiful music in the world...so they came back. Eddie said "OK, one more song and then we have to quit. Stone is gonna sing u this one." After Mankind, they played 7 more songs and Eddie repeated that 'one more song and then bye' 3 times. At the end, they closed with one of their best songs, Porch. Then it was really goodbye time, cause guys were really exhausted and needed rest...but I could stand there and listen to them forever, non-stop, because that is the band that created something bigger than music...they created energy, energy that would move a mountain... LONG LIVE PEARL JAM.

P.S. I hope that Eddie won't be mad at me 'cause i'm using his name for my Net Nickname. BECAUSE I LOVE PEARL JAM. I LOVE EDDIE'S VOCALS, STONE'S RHYTHM, MIKE'S SOLOS, JEFF'S BASS, AND JACK'S DRUMBEAT. I LOVE U!!!!!!
