Cathy LaVenia (clavenia@brigadoon.com):
I'm so glad that everything worked out for me to get to Oakland and see this show. Great seat, great airfare, GREAT show. It's been over a year since I've seen Pearl Jam and this hour set for the Stones was a great quick fix.

I liked the new songs from "Yield", especially " Evolution". They sounded great - like they haven't had a break from playing live. I'd seen Stone with Brad, so I knew he would be in form, but Mike's playing was incredible. I've never seen Eddie so animated. Dancing around during "Evolution" and also while playing his guitar during "Better Man". His Jaggeresque sprints to the both ends of the stage were funny. I also loved it when he came out and sang "Waiting on a Friend" with Mick. I thought there was a great vibe up there between all of them and I'm looking forward to this next tour.

Now..Maui in February?

Jonathan Blatt (jblatt@Internex.net):
Wow, was this a fun show!! Usually, when I think of Pearl Jam's music, or of my previous Pearl Jam concert experience, the first word that comes to mind is intensity. Granted, this show certainly did pack a lot of intensity, as was evident in powerful renditions of Corduroy and Even Flow, as well as music from the new album (No other band can preview new music on tour as well as PJ).

However, the highlight of the show was definitely the band's impromptu rendition of Beast of Burden, in which Eddie jokingly put on a falsetto voice. The band no doubt started playing the song to tease Eddie about his upcoming duet with Mick on "Waiting for a Friend". It was also great to everyone having so much fun with "Alive" after Eddie totally screwed up the lyrics on the first verse. This was a band that was definitely having a good time on stage, and it really came through to the audience.

Eddie's performance with the Stones was great and completely unexpected. It was obvious that the Stones have a lot of respect for Pearl Jam and that was good to see.

Well I did not think it was possible, but Pearl Jam was even better Wednesday, the last of four shows, than on Friday the first. I was lucky enough to have gotten some really nice floor tickets and the view was terrific! For the second time, Mother Nature bestowed us with clear skies and tolerable temperatures. From the very begining, the band seemed to be REALLY enjoying themselves. I noticed several times, while watching the two screens on either side of the stage, Mike and Stone with big grins on their faces. It was good to see them apparently having as much fun playing as we were watching them. I especially liked Eddie's comments "just kidding" when they started to play the Stones "Start Me Up", or "boy, are we gonna be in trouble for that." after playing about one third of "Beast of Burden". After hearing two new songs ("Given To Fly" and "Do The Evolution") I am eagerly awaiting the release of their new album. I was completly jazzed when they finished with "Yellow Ledbetter" as it is one of my most favorite songs.

One thing I found touching was the look on Mr. Vedder's face when he came out to sing with Mick Jagger during the Rolling Stones set. He seemed to be totally awed, and maybe just a little bit nervous about the idea. The crowd came alive while watching these two together.

All in all I would have to say this has been one hell of a week. One would think that after seeing Pearl Jam twice in four days that I might be satisfied but, not so surprisingly, I find myself jonesing for more. I hope that just because these guys opened a few shows they don"t think that we're all filled up or something. I can't wait for the tour that I have been hearing about! Thanks again!
