Anyway, fast forward two days, one plane flight to Austin, a 3 hour drive
to Dallas, and a night of 4th of July celebration. Soon we were ready for
one more show....
During the fourth song of that show Ed had reason to bust out with "Hail,
Hail the lucky ones, I refer to those who're tall." That was, of course,
referring to PJ fanatic Dennis Rodman, who had rushed onto the stage and
began his own one-man mosh pit. And Ed was right too...throughout the
course of the night, Dennis got to sing back-up vocals on "Spin the Black
Circle", give Ed a piggy-back ride during "Alive", and even take in at
least half the show seated on Jeff's stool next to the drum riser. I wish I
could be Dennis Rodman.
The high-points of the Dallas show were the surprise opener, "Sometimes";
"Off He Goes", which Ed made even more beautiful with some experimentations
with voice infection's; "Rearviewmirror" that had most of the arena crowd
bouncing up and down; and "Better Man", which included a full "Save it For
Later" tag that got to me. While I'm at it, the "Daughter" tag (something
like "Mother, you had me..but I never had you, along with "Monkey Gone to
Heaven") was very cool. And this particular version of "Alive" may have
been the best ever.
It was a great show, even in a rather cavernous arena, and one I'll never
forget. Now it's time to get some rest, crank up my Dallas bootleg tape,
and plan a Pearl Jam trip for September.

The show at Reunion Arena last night was incredible. The Murder City
Devils did a killer job as the openers, playing louder than almost any
band I've ever heard. The Pearl Jam set was simply amazing. I've never
seen or heard of the band putting so much energy and intensity into a
show. Eddie's voice live sounded better than it does on disc (vinyl or
CD), Mike was playing like a man possessed, and my head is still
pounding from the ex-Soundgarden drummer's playing. The setlist speaks
for itself. How fitting that "Brain of J." was played 3 blocks from the
Texas Book Depositry. The music plus the setlist was enough to nearly
blow the roof off the place. If that wasn't enough, having Dennis Rodman
jump on stage during "Hail, Hail", singing backup on "Spin the Black
Circle", and jumping up and down with Eddie on his shoulders during
"Alive" is something that I, nor anyone else there, will ever forget.
I've been waiting for over 3 years for another opprotunity to see PJ live
and it was well worth the wait. One note to anyone else going to a show
in the future: DON'T THROW SHIT AT THE STAGE!!! Thanks again for the
third row seats.

I really enjoyed the Dallas show on July 5th. I drove there from Baton Rouge with a friend who hasn't heard a lot of Pearl Jam's music. I thought the set list they played was a great combination of all their albums. What was really awesome though, was when Dennis Rodman came onstage and went crazy with the band. I also thought Matt Cameron did a great job filling in for Jack. I can't wait until September to see them again!
