Great show. I just saw Van Halen on the 4th of July and this was just as good. I had much better seats for VH (15 rows back) than PJ (Upper level on the side), but it was still amazing. I was hoping and guessing they would open with Long Road, but I had long forgotten about Release and it was a welcome surprise. Then they kicked into high gear: Last Exit, Brain of J and Hail Hail got the crowd on its feet. Then another song I wasn't expecting, Red Mosquito, my fave from No Code. Mike just went off into another world with the slide guitar. The highlight of the night was Given to Fly, PJ's unofficial comeback song. I can't tell you how great this song sounds live. Unexplainable.

Corduroy cooked, I Got Shit sounded great (my friend had never heard it before and he now wants a copy of Merkinball). I was also really impressed at how good Off He Goes came across live. I thought it might drag, but it worked. Even Flow definitely was a crowd pleaser. I don't like Faithful so I sat down during that, although they did sound tight on it. The band finished off the set with a powerful combo: Daughter, Nothingman, Jeremy, Habit and Alive. In Habit, Eddie didn't do the "Speaking as a ..." line. He took center stage with a sole spotlight on him and did kind of a solo breakdown segment till the rest of the band kicked back in. During Alive, Eddie this altered line "'Is something wrong', she said. OF COURSE THERE IS YOU FUCKING BITCH!!" Hilarious. For the encore, they did Do the Evolution, and Rearviewmirror, but the highlights were Wishlist and a ripping version of Leaving Here. Then they came out again with a guest. I saw someone I didn't recognize and I thought maybe it was Neil Young, but then realized it wasn't. Eddie soon announced it was Johnny Ramone. They sang what I am guessing was a Ramone's song, but I don't know.

Eddie made some comment during the show about how great it was to smoke inside a public building in LA, then took a big drag off a cigarette. It's nice to see the lighter side of Eddie. My only disappointments about the show are the fact that they did not play Yellow Ledbetter (which I guess they didn't play the night before at the Forum either), and they didn't play In Hiding. Oh Well, I guess I can deal.

My god, I barely can describe the way I feel. It was awesome. I always knew that the first pearl jam I would love but never did I imagine that it would be to this extent. From that moment the lights went off the crowd got on their feet and the energy in that area went up and never came down. Then the guitar begins softly, it is Release, the lights come up just as soft shinning on one of the stars, Eddie doing that opening hum for Release. The highlight of the show had to be the favorites from Ten. Alive and Even Flow, I, like every other fan tried to sing as hard as we could to the words of these songs that will be a part of us. Every member in the band looked like they were having the time of their lives. Better Man and Nothingman were even better than the albums. There is just some energy that they give when they are live that is impossible to duplicate. Eddie thanked everyone in the crowd for being there, well I would like to do the same to them. Thank them for doing this for us, for giving us a chance to experience their wonderful art. I hope that it is not to long till the next time that they return.
