Matt Yanchar (Cheezsuep@aol.com):
Hi there! Here is a review of the great Cleveland show on Wednesday...I've been to lots of different concerts (2 PJ, lots of others) but I have never written a review for any show I've been to, so I am hoping this is up to par. =)

Just thought I'd express some of my thoughts and observations about the show at Blossom Music Center this Wednesday......basically, the show just flat-out rocked!!!! The guys were really together and tight-a great show! But before I get into any specifics...I'd like to say as an employee of Blossom (wasn't working that night) that I was embarrassed and angry at the shabby treatment I saw being shown towards tapers trying to get their recorders in, and the fact that Blossom flip-flopped on their policy of letting recorders in for this show! Up until around 7, they weren't letting recorders in-lucky another guy and me saw Eddie riding his board in the lot and told him about it (they wouldn't even let us TALK to Pete!) I assume that he did something, because recorders were allowed in like a half-hour later!

ANYWAYS...besides that little bit of negativity, the whole DAY was awesome...I saw and taped the soundcheck which was cool...and the show, well-WOW about sums it up...

The color Red, and then..Ed comes out on his skateboard to start off the show=) Hail Hail for openers? I was hoping for Release, since they opened Chicago with Long Road, but this was fine with me!!!-a sudden blast of energy to start the show, which was continued with Animal-a little longer version than I am used to-I can already tell Mikey is on tonight-and Ed sounds great-and Jeff and Stone are already bouncin' around, gettin' into it! GTF-what can I say?-this song just soars live!!! Matt Cameron is excellent on this song!

Corduroy-great, as always-good little in this one MFC-I know others have said it, but I agree so much that I have to say it-THIS SONG IS TOO SHORT!!! God I wish this was extended-still, they jammed this one out a bit too-very cool Immortality-OK, now they kick it into another gear!! This song was amazing-the jam before the last verse was INTENSE!!!!!!! the strobe lights during this didn't hurt-and Matt during this song-WoW!! FOOTSTEPS!!! on my setlist I have "oh my god!" written by this-all that needs to be said...this is such a gripping song!!!! Great placement too, after the intense Immortality! Even Flow-aw yeah!! this song was great!!!! Mike has an insane solo here!! the band just cuts loose on the jam in this!! Jeremy-standard version, which means great! Loud audience sing-along at the end, with Ed's encouragement! In Hiding-Yes! I love this song-Ed's voice was great on this song! The lyrics are so interesting! Daughter-I always look forward to this song, because not only is it a cool song, but it's neat to hear what tags are put on the end! Ed sang a little of "my city was gone" by the Pretenders, which was appropriate because its about Cleveland! Then WMA-which is always cool, too!

Brain of J-Wow! I went nuts when I heard the beginning of this song-I love this tune! I don't think I was jumping around as much as the guys on stage, though. =) RVM-I called this tune to my friend after I saw Ed strapping on his guitar-just a feeling I had that they were gonna play this-great version!!! This is one of all-time favorite songs-it has such an awesome groove to it! The jam was not as spacy as the one I saw in Chicago-it was different-more rocking than spacy...but still REALLY intense! I was going nuts by the end of this! Better Man- Another audience sing-along-Ed's voice was especially excellent on this one too! I was really hoping for a "save it for later" tag, but nope...oh well! Wishlist-Cool! The mirrorball is a neat touch. Got the "radio song.." lyric at the end. Alive- this is such a great show ender...jammed out and extended at the end, with Ed walking around the front shaking hands while the rest of the guys were just going off and bouncing all over the stage!!!!!

Encore: Ed fooled everyone by teasing Porch-he counted off 1..2..3..4 and then started Small Town! I wish they had played Porch, but Small Town was beautiful, as it always is! Another one of my favorites!! DTE-YESSSSSSS!!!!!! Now this song is INTENSE!!I was wondering when they would play this-awesome placement right after Small Town-almost a shock to go from one to the other-very cool-this song has such a strong meaning-I hope a lot of people get it=) Leatherman!- I heard then soundcheck this earlier so I wasn't too suprised, but still... awesome song! Black-woohoo-I was looking forward to this....beautiful song, and Mikey went nuts at the end-another insane solo!! The whole show Mike was just running everywhere on stage-the guy is psycho!!!! I loved Ed's speech after this about blowing up the Hall of Fame if Iggy Pop doesn't get in by the next time they come to Cleveland=) Hope its not as long as it took them to come back this time-4 years! Then Ed holds up a sign he got from someone in the audience.....BABA!- Oh my God!!!! I heard it in Chicago, and it was about the same here--incredible!!!!!! Ed bangin' away on his tambourine, and the guys all doing their best Who imitations with the jumps and windmills and all that.....they play just a kick-ass version of this song!!!!! Me and my friend are huge Who fans, and we just looked at each other after Ed unfurled the BABA sign, and went crazy!! Audience helped Ed out a lot with some of the lyrics- "don't cry...don't brace your eye...its only teenage wasteland!"

Yellow Ledbetter-to end the show, with the house lights up, was great...one last chance to see the great Mike in action-the rest of the guys, as well as all of those in the audience, were just standing in awe of Mike at his solo at the end! Great end to a great show-this band is the best!! I have to say thanks to them for making the kind of music they do, and for the attitude they have towards their fans, music in general, and towards themselves...they look like they are finally at just the place within the scheme of things that they need and want to be at...God, I wish I had tix to another show! Hopefully I'll get to see them when I am in London next year. =) Oh-and MIke D, if you read this, give me an e-mail-my tape of the show didn't come out too well, but I got the soundcheck good! have fun at the rest of the tour, y'all!!!
