Yeastie Girls rap sound clip: Eric SwibelLloyd (lloyd@emeraldis.com): Even Flow included a GREAT solo from Mike 'Hendrix' McCready while "in hiding" impressed me as being a very good live song. "last exit" was powerful. Eddie then asked the crowd if they were coming to see the Beastie Boys tomorrow night and he then said that he would be there. Eddie then started talking about a feminist punk band front San Francisco named the Yeastie Girls and then asked Matt to play a drum beat. Eddie then sang a song about the Yeastie Girls. [aif] [wav] (18 sec.) It was pretty funny. Before playing "off he goes", Eddie said it was about his best friend. "mfc" was next and it rocked, then "better man" which disappointed me a little because it didn't have a tag. I was VERY impressed with "brain of j" as Mike ran all over the stage all night. "alive" was a crowd pleaser and included a great solo from none other than Mike McCready. I am a BIG fan of Mike now after seeing him perform on this tour. The band then walked off stage but I was certain that they would come back. Of course they did and began the 1st encore with a fast-paced "go". Eddie then looked at the crowd for signs and first saw a "low light" sign. This excited me because I know that the band has yet to play this live but Eddie responded with a no. He then saw a "no way" sign and said that he had seen the guy holding the sign up at a couple shows and then said "i don't want to have to see that fucking sign again" humorously. The band then played a nice version of the song. "rearviewmirror" was next and it was the best version that I have ever heard. There was a long interlude in the middle but the pace picked back up at the end. "daughter" was next and it was soooooo long. It included THREE tags (Talk About The Passion, All Those Yesterdays, and The Wrong Child). "talk about the passion" and "the wrong child" are R.E.M. songs. R.E.M. is from nearby Athens, Georgia so that is probably the reason thay used those as tags. "black" was next and Stone messed up the intro for a second, but then recovered. Eddie then responded by saying that it was the first time they had played "black". Mike added a wonderful solo. "porch" followed and it was great. Eddie came down into the crowd during this but I was not able to make my way to him. By the way, the fan club hooked me up with stellar 7th row seats. The band then left the stage again. They then came back out and did a great version of "yellow ledbetter". The outro was excellently played by Mike as the whole band observed. Jeff put his bass down, Stone put his guitar down and Eddie and Matt just watched. Matt threw his sticks in the crowd and Mike took his shirt off and threw it in the crowd before the band left the stage. What a show! I am fortunate to also have tickets to the Greenville, S.C. show and I can't wait. |
