Nick Zaharias (zaharias@snet.net): Just as amazing was the pace of the show. PJ never let up with their assault. I'd be surprised if they took more than 5 seconds between any 2 songs. One great song after another, without any breaks (except for one where Eddie called the Ken Starr report "a $40 million porno mag.") Not only was this the best PJ concert I've ever seen - it was the best concert by any artist, by far!!! Thanks guys - see you on the next tour. Diane (akabetty5@yahoo.com): As soon as Pearl Jam walked on stage, you could just tell it was going to be a good night... the guys walked out smiling and joking around with each other, and Eddie had a 'fro' wig kicking... it was funny as hell. Matt Cameron blended in like a forever band mate, and that just added to the unity of the group. Now I'm a very visual person... so I couldn't help but notice the 'toys' that decorated the stage. If you looked up into the lighting rafters, there was a row of black crows (fake of course) perched on the rafters... I couldn't help but laugh at the smoking doll that was placed on Mike's speaker cabinet... and there was this wild looking rooster and a gold bat placed on the other speaker cabinets. Now I don't know if I'm capable of talking about the music itself... no matter what words I use, or how I can describe it... NOTHING can bring back the feeling of being there, listening to every note and beat played, or every word that was sung. Like I said... it was so incredibly intense... to see Mike's fingers dancing on the guitar neck while playing behind his back, to Jeff jumping around... practically flying on stage, to Stone stomping his feet and nodding his head to the beat of the music... in his green cords no less, hehe :), to Matt in his blue 'basketball jersey' like shirt... banging on those drums like a madman with rhythm, and Eddie... drabbed in black, cradling his mic and rolling his eyes to the most intense lyrics... crushing a rose from some chick, sharing his beer w/ a fellow fan, and telling the security guys to 'lighten up' while the crowd flew down to the stage like a stampede, just for a chance to 'dance in the aisles for the last two songs. hehe You can just bet that there sure in hell wasn't any room for dancing... that's for sure. This was the second time that I've had the privilege of seeing Pearl Jam live... and it will be the most memorable. There are lots of things that people take for granted these days... but I will forever be thankful for the experience I encountered last night... rock on Pearl Jam. Rock hard. PJam116@aol.com: After dismantling the BH set, it was time for Pearl Jam's boys to get setting up. This took about a good 20 minutes. I think first Matt Cameron started getting set behind the drumkit. By now the anticipation was flowing through me as the pedestal candles illuminated the background of the stage. The lights dimmed and I knew that this was gonna be THE best show I've ever seen. Immediately they tore into "corduroy" as Eddie was sporting an afro wig, which I thought was in honor of both Harper and Hendrix of course. "animal" and "hail hail" followed, which both sound great live. "given to fly" was an obvious crowd-pleaser and got everybody rockin. "i got id", my favorite song of PJam & Neil Young was played next, along with "dissident" and "go" from VS. "tremor christ" I've never heard live, which was funky with Stone playing his Beatles-ish riffs. The next three were the sure shot crowd pleasers of the night, "daughter" unabridged along with Jeff's powerful "jeremy" and then the classic "even flow" with Mike's sonic solos and improv's from his spot on the left side of the stage. The next 2 were two of my favorites from Yield, "mfc" and the song of beliefs, "faithful", a classic-rock sounding song almost like Zeppelin. This was the intermission time of the show, when Eddie conversed with the crowd, holding up thank-you signs, and Ed's views on the internet porn industry. Next was one of my favorite moments of the show, as the mirrorball revolved for "wishlist." It was a great moment as Ed played his lead guitar part and harmony in such a peaceful, carefree tune ... you can tell I had Abbie in my mind!! Ed summed up his theory of evolution as they broke into "do the evolution" and "spin the black circle", not in that order I think. As they said goodnight and departed the stage, I knew it was far from over!!! We the crowd let them know we weren't leaving so soon, so in a few minutes the boys were back with "brain of j(fk)", and another of Mike's sonic solos as they jammed through the first Yield track. Next was my favorite moment of the most spectacular show. My favorite song was played! The rocking groove of "breath", from Singles, the Crowe film, began as I sang the chorus lines. This song is the most amazing song played live, like a WHO "wont get fooled again" or Stones "brown sugar". Just the lyrics are so inspiring, plus the groove is just so alive!!! (no pun intended) The last couple of songs were the other highlights, "alive", "better man", "rearviewmirror" and "porch" as the crowd congregated in the aisles, much to the dismay of the yellow-dressed security thugs. All in all the show was unbelievable, after waiting over five years to see them I thought I deserved it!!! I enjoyed it much more than the 2 bums that came along with me! One of those rare, treasured moments of your youth I guess is what I can call it! Thanks to the boys of Pearl Jam and Ben Harper for a terrific evening! Can't wait for the next one and hopefully Brad will tour again also!! JRF73@aol.com: From the opening song which was Corduroy to the closing song Porch (which happens to be my personal favorite) Pearl Jam just did what they do best - play their hearts out for all the fans. The highlight of the night was being able to get up to the front row for the last two songs of the night. Thanks Ed for telling the security guys to let us dance! and dance we did! During the last couple of lyrics of Wishlist Ed said he wished he was president Well, you certainly got my vote. He also told the crowd that everyone should read the Starr report because for 40 million dollars it is the most expensive porno mag around. I would like to take the time now to thank the Ten Club for the excellent seats I receive whenever Pearl Jam is in town (it only cost 10 bucks to join why aren't you a member yet?) For those of you that are members you know how cool the Ten Club is! Also I almost forgot to mention the thank-you signs we held up at the beginning of the encore for them playing breath at M.S.G. unfortunately I wasn't there to hear it but guess what they played it again for us in Hartford! Thank-you Pearl Jam for another memorable night of unforgettable music! p.s. nice wig Ed. |
