September 15, 1998, Boston, Massachusetts; Great Woods Center
Richmac3@aol.com: The band did not speak early in the show, but rather played about 10 straight songs without taking a breather and the energy was unbelievable. I had requested two songs for the show (Hail, Hail and Yellow Ledbetter). The first song was played third overall, which was awesome and the band closed with a awesome rendition of the song that everyone tries to figure the words out to. Eddie alluded to the band playing at Great Woods at Lollapalooza in 92, which was cool because that was the last time I had been fortunate enough to actually land tickets for one of their gigs. I wish I was going to the show tonight, but unfortunately I can't. Thank you guys for the best concert experience of my life. My wife and I returned to college for one night and will always remember this show. It was the best. Thank you very much, and come back real, real soon. Steve Lyons (Slyons@mountida.edu): PERL JM 1@aol.com: I need to give a shout out to Ben Harper for playing one Kick A@@ version of Jimi Hendrix's "voodoo child". They started off the version with a great version of "sometimes" that seemed to mellow out the crowd a little bit except for the hundreds of people like I running up to the front barrier. They then went into "corduroy" and " hail, hail." probably my favorite songs off those albums the crowd was then going wild. Then into "animal" Which made everyone start jumping around. Then into "given to fly" followed by " daughter" where half the crowd were holding up lighters. Then into "immortality" Then into "rearviewmirror " which had everyone singing right with him. Then probably the best part of the concert he started singing the chorus of "crazy mary" followed by "wish list". Then into "jeremy" followed by "nothingman" this song almost had the crowd in tears." Brain of J" was next, then "In hiding" two of the best songs off their new album. instead of the line "they were upside down"., he said "here are my balls " which made the whole crowd laugh. "Alive" came next. that was the end of their first set but not the end. eddie then gave thanks out to the crowd and read some of the signs people had up. there was one for "Hard To Imagine" that he liked. "Elderly Woman' "came next , then "Not For You". then stone thanked ben harper. they then jammed into "Last Exit" and "Do The Evolution" followed by "Black" the song that changed my life. then they played neil young's "Fuckin' Up" and walked off. when they came back for their second encore they played "Yellow Ledbetter" that made the entire night complete. thanks eddie, mike, stone, jeff, and matt for a concert i will never forget.
