September 22, 1998, W. Palm Beach, Florida; Coral Sky Amphitheatre
BOOGIEMAN@aol.com: So here's my morning after : So we get there and we're just amped and we don't know where to go so we head in. The security folks check our tickets like very ten feet and we keep getting waved forward. We're on the floor and getting closer and closer and we get all the way up to the front and just shaking our heads in disbelief . The last bouncer points to front and says "yup right there in the front in the middle". I 'm wiggin. We make it to our seats and just lose it - the mic stand is three feet in front of me. I am just shaknig my head. As the show time gets closer, people start filling in in front of us and the bouncer says to us that people with front row tickets are allowed to stand BEHIND the bouncers and along the rail closests to the stage - what did he say???- Singing with EV with arms outstretched and eye contact all night, jumping up and down like yo-yos wacthing Stone, him watching us and just cracking up with us - McCready scissor kicking on cue, Jeff going off and Matt was just slamming his drums to pieces. I made a T- shirt with a smiley face that said quite simply "thank you :-) vhc" VHC being the Vitalogy Health Club aka fan club and held it up over my head when they came on for the encore and in between gasps, EV looked down and said "no - thank you. you've given us the greatest job in the world" - I just smiled and shook my head in affirmation - and they busted into Last Exit. Highlights included Lukin (!) , In Hiding, SOLAT, MFC, a smoking Porch, a solo EV jam for a tag in Habit, Immoratlity (one to remember), and Baba O. What more could I ask for? As a fan who flies to other towns (and countries) and has seen them a dozen times over 7 years, thank you VHC. Jon Summersfield (Jon@Intraworldnet.com): I've been lucky enough to see the band five times and rank last night's concert as the best yet. Unbelievable versions of Jeremy and Evolution left the capacity crowd just begging for more. Add to this a blistering 'Hail, Hail' (I thought I was going to explode by this point) and an encore of Alive which left me in a state of (love & trust!) euphoria were my personal highlights of the evening. That doesn't mean that 'Betterman', 'Wishlist', 'Brain of J.' were not memorable....and believe me it's hard to select individual songs from an incredible set list! Another 'goosebump' worthy moment was the crowd singing/participation.....nailing every word of 'Daughter' (and surprisingly in tune!), arms in a 'V' for our buddy 'Jeremy', proving it really is a 'Teenage Wasteland' during the encore.....Eddie said he'd need some help and he got it. South Florida embraces PJ every time they visit and this was no exception. I was seventh row last night and couldn't have asked for any more. With an impending hurricane sitting waiting to batter us, the band brought some much needed relief - so much so I'm going again tonight (though tonight's tickets are at the back!!)........I just wish I could take every friend I have so they too can share in the moment! Hey, I have an idea - impeach Clinton and instate PJ - now that would make sure everyone got a good dosage of the lads! Hahaha! Last point - a big mention for Rancid - not only did they play a great set they were also very grateful to PJ - from the consensus around me, Lars and bandmates are welcome back ANY time! Thanks again to the entire band, management, road crew etc. etc. - believe me your hard work and artistry is well appreciated!.......now there was just one thing that could have made it unbeatable....about that Temple of the Dog reunion!! Cheers! Jon Summersfield |
