I just went to the Adelaide concert in Australia!!!
I was at the very front for the whole concert. I was just to the left of
Mike McCready. He and I waved to each other quite a few times. The whole
band were really happy and thanked us for being such a good crowd. They
played all the songs I wanted. It was great!!!
Leigh (lamina@iaccess.com.au):
Once again tonight PJ played an incredible show.
Tonight's gig was an outdoor show. The atmosphere was a lot different than
the previous shows. Not necessarily better or worse, just
different. Seeing the moon shining directly in front of Ed at the start
of the show and a light breeze blowing made for a great spectacle.
I was in the mosh pit tonight so it was pretty difficult to take any
notes. I was just trying to survive! The crowd were looking after each
other though which was good.
The band opened with the brilliant MFC. This song just gets better and
better. Brain of J and Hail Hail are next. After Hail Hail, Stone spends a few
minutes re-tuning his guitar. Ed shows us that he is drinking Coopers
Beer and tells the crowd to be careful but so far so good.
The next bit for me is pretty cool... while still waiting for Stone to
finish Ed says, "This next song spelled backwards says LAMINA". Ed then
says, "Have you worked it out yet? "then something about a "well-educated
crowd could work out it was Animal" or something like that. I was pretty
stoked when he said that because my user name and handle I use in chats
is LAMINA. A friend of mine who is a really close friend of Eddies
always talks to me when I have that handle and "supposedly" I have
spoken to Ed on the computer some time ago under that handle. He actually
asked me what Lamina meant and I told him it was Animal backwards. I know
it is probably purely co-incidence but who knows. I was pretty excited
all the same.
Animal is great followed by Do The Evolution which still surprises me
just how good it is live!
This is followed by Dissident, Jeremy and crowd favorite Corduroy.
The amazing Wishlist is next and the slower song provides much needed
relief in the mosh. Ed singing this song and looking out at the moon in
front of him is pretty amazing.
Lukin is played for the first time in Australia this tour and is really
powerful, another one of my favorite live songs.
I Got Shit is next .. another crowd favorite.
Even Flow next gets the mosh going pretty wild and is followed by
Daughter.
During Daughter Ed sings the tag, "I don't, I don't, I don't," repeated for a
while then a bit from Hunger Strike, "I don't mind stealing bread... from
the mouths of decadence" but not in the same way that the original is
sung.
After this Ed says something like, "This is one I hope comes true. By the
end of the night I want to be floating right up the back"... this is the
lead up to Given To Fly.
After this Ed starts what I guess is just an improvisation. I'm not sure
exactly. It was a slowish sort of song. I couldn't make out what he was
initially singing but then he just started repeating "Adelaide,
Adelaide, Adelaide"... It was quite good actually. It's great to hear
things at a PJ concert that you've never heard before.
This is followed by Habit.
Ed talks to the crowd after this and shows his great sense of humor by
saying roughly this, "I just want to state for the record... and I'm not
sure if I speak for everyone... but we just love Liam Gallagher.
I was walking last night and ended up playing some pool with a few
people. Making friends and having a great time. Then someone asked me for
a picture...and I headbutted the fucker... I love this rock star thing".
It was so funny. The story behind it is that Oasis are touring Australia
at the moment as well and Liam has been getting himself into quite a bit
of trouble. A few days ago after a fan outside his hotel asked for a
photograph and Liam got the guy in a headlock then headbutted him and broke
his nose. Liam was charged by the Police and all over it.
It was amusing listening to Ed take the piss out of Oasis for the second
time. (the first was Monday night when Ed said they found some cocaine
backstage. Oasis had played the night before in the same venue.)
Elderly Woman is next. Ed then says " This one we haven't tried yet on this tour. You have the
ears for it I think." ...then they play a beautiful version of Nothingman.
After this it's straight into State of Love and Trust. The mosh was wild
for this song.
During this song I saw a guy carrying a girl who appeared to have passed
out. He was yelling at the crowd to get out of his way so he could get
her over the barrier. So the crowd obliging made room for them but as
soon as they got to the front the girl "suddenly" came good and they
just started moshing away. A pretty ingenious way to get to the front
row!
Alive was next and was the last song of the main set.
When the band came back on for the first encore Ed starts by saying "We
were thinking what song would represent the way you are feeling now. This
is it." (something like that)... the band then play an intense GO.
Ed then sings Better Man adding the lines "Save it for later... Don't
run away, Don't run away" something similar anyway.
Before the next song Ed says "We've had a good night. You guys have been
tough." ...then he says how he knows how hard it is to be out there or
something.
Then he looks at the moon and says, "The moon was over there but now it's
over here... Its good to know the world is still turning regardless of
what we are doing to it."
Last Exit is then played and the band leave the stage before returning
once again to play a brilliant Yellow Ledbetter. Great way to end the
show with Jeff casually sitting on some amps on stage playing. Then while
Mike is playing the final solo, Jeff just sits on the floor behind him
watching and Ed stands on Stone's side of the stage watching also.
Mike ends his brilliant solo slightly different than normal and this
also ends another great show. Before leaving the stage, Ed obviously
happy with another excellent show says "I'm buying drinks for everyone...see you at the pub"...
Being in the mosh tonight made it extremely hard to take any notes so
some of the quotes again might be slightly wrong but the general idea is
there.
Out of the shows I've seen so far I'd say this one was second only to
Tuesday night's Melbourne gig. The atmosphere was great and there was a
pretty big crowd. With the stars and the moon it made it all pretty
special. The weather was perfect... not too cold and a clear night.
Mike was sitting at the side of the stage for Shudder To Think.
The last 2 shows have had 2 encores but the overall show length has
still been roughly the same for them all... about 1 hour 45 mins or so.
The next 3 shows are in Sydney and unfortunately I can't make it to those.
I have a week now until my next and last 2 shows, in Brisbane. I'm flying
there on Wednesday so I can't wait!
This past week has been incredible... 4 PJ shows in 6 days. It's been a
very sleepless week and I've still had to work everyday after them. Then
with 16 hours or so on a bus today getting to Adelaide and back I'm
pretty exhausted. The week's break will be good.
I'm on such a natural high though. It's been a totally amazing week. I was
a bit worried that I'd hyped myself up to much for all this and may have
been disappointed but I've still been blown away every night. The set lists
have been really mixed and the new songs especially have been
unbelievable. Faithfull was missing from the set list tonight which was a
little disappointing because I think live that is easily one of the best
new songs but it was still a brilliant night and they finally played
Yellow Ledbetter... so I was very happy. :-) I was
pushed a bit to the side and couldn't see Jack but Eddie played drums
for a bit before Yellow Ledbetter. Pretty cool!
