Tonight's show was extra special for us because earlier in the day we managed to meet the whole band. (long story) Suffice to say everyone was very cool. Ed was really nice, so friendly and calm. Jeff, Jack, Stone and Mike were great too, signing autographs and chatting briefly.

Shudder To Think did the usual. Before their song Pebbles (Ed used a line from this as the Daughter tag in Melbourne), lead singer Craig said, "This is for Eddie."

Tonight, they opened with the Long Road - this is Sonia's highlight of the 2 nights. It was pretty amazing - it just sounded so good! Ed then says jokingly, "Hello Melbourne." The crowd kinda cheers then boos. "Aaah...Sydney." More boos. "Adelaide?" Boo. "Auckland" Boo. Then a little smirk and "Hello Brisbane." Crowd roars. =)

Go was really tight, one of the best of the tour. Do The Evolution was next with Jeff and Jack interacting quite a bit. Mike had the flying V guitar. Craig from Shudder To Think did the "hallelujah" line tonight. Then came Brain of J. and In Hiding. I wanted them to play this song so much and it was better than I imagined. Line change was "I swallowed the truth to keep from lying." Crowd favourite Alive up next with Ed accidently bumping into Stone who was standing near Jack. Ed sang "was your daddy, was nothing but a fool." Last Exit was next with Ed saying "we're just warming up."

Wishlist was really good, with a few line changes. "as fortunate as you" and once again, "I wish I was a different being." During Corduroy, Mike wandered around to the side of the stage looking very nonchalant. MFC up next, then Ed says, "Quiet, this is a sad song." then mimics some sniffles. That led into Nothingman which I was surprised they played twice in 2 nights.

During Even Flow, Ed walked around the back of the stage again, behind the curtain during the solo. Rob Machado is side stage and as Ed walks past him, Rob puts out his hand and Ed high-5's him before exchanging words and returning to center stage. Next up was Jeremy which the crowd went wild for. Then Given To Fly. Once again the crowd was really responsive to this song. It was great to see the crowd appreciate equally both an old song like Jeremy and a new song like Given To Fly.

Then the lights went dark the spotlight was on Ed with his black Gibson. This image was amazing. Ed said, "This goes out to the one I love. I don't know if this is a great Aussie song, or the cheesiest Aussie song ever written." Then leads into Throw Your Arms Around Me (by Hunters & Collectors). It looked and sounded really beautiful and the whole crowd sang along. Another definite highlight. This was followed by Off He Goes which was a really great song to follow TYAAM. Another great version.

Habit had a bit of a jam before it which we believe was possibly an Angels song (who Mike loves) and instead of "speaking as a child of the 90's," it was "speaking of me." Rearviewmirror (the closing song) had Ed playing the slow start. There was a long improv in the middle, with Ed sitting on the speaker then walking ever so slowly back to the mic for "saw things..."

Encore 1 started with Mankind and Stone saying "now it's my turn to sing one. Try anyway." Ed was on side stage singing backup. Stone looked like he was having a lot of fun. After Hail Hail Ed began a long speech. "In a weird way it seems like our last night in Australia." Then he said something about how they'd travelled all the way up the east coast and Perth felt like a world away. Ed mentioned he was in the water for "6 fucking hours today" and also mentioned he didn't get injured, unlike Stone. He said Stone got attacked by a "mad jellyfish." Ed says "show 'em" and Stone lifts up his shirt and turns towards the crowd. Ed - "you know what happens when you get stung by a jellyfish, don't you?" Everyone cheered realising what he meant. "So I got to do something I'd wanted to do for a long time.....piss on him." The crowd went absolutely wild! Then leading into Not For You with "this is Not For You, and it's not for you." The only line change was "just 2, me and Beth."

Better Man didn't have a tag, but the crowd still loved it immensly. After it, Ed said "I just saw the funniest thing...there was a guy over there," and he points to a guy in the mosh pit. Then he pretends to hold up a lighter, like he's waving it for a slow song, "and suddenly..." and dropped his hand, jumped around a bit, swore and acted like he'd burnt his hand. The crowd loved it.

Blood was next to close the encore and had a really long improv in the middle. Ed braced his mic against the speakers in the front, bent over it and made this really trippy sound for a few minutes. We weren't sure but he may have had his foot on an effects pedal. It sounded like a really deep, low rumbling, kind of like a digeridoo. Leigh said that this was his highlight. Ed's voice was just amazing.

Encore 2 was Indifference and RITFW. Rob came out with an Afro wig and Ed's guitar. He started quietly, but got into it later. The house lights came up about a third of the way into the song and it looked amazing. He changed "machine gun hands" to "computer hands" and "never get to go n surf / never get to being cool." Jeff looked like he was having a great time, jumping around heaps. At the end, Ed threw his bottle of red wine over the crowd, then shakes it over his head, splashing wine on himself. Then he handed the empty bottle to someone. Ed faces the people behind the stage (with his back to the mosh pit) and does his sexy little side-to-side dance. Right at the end, Ed points to everyone on stage separately and says their name, starting with Rob and finishing with "and me." Then he picked up his book and made his walked slowly off stage and that was Pearl Jam's stint in Brisbane.

Aaaaah, a weekend full of nothing but Pearl Jam. Gotta love it. =)
