Mark Jordan (outlaw@sprint.com.au):
Just got home and to be honest, my wife and myself feel a bit down. I think the realisation that this was as close as we will get to having a relationship with our favourite band. Apart from that, it was the best concert we have been to. There was a great acoustic solo song by Eddie called "Trouble" and pray to someone that it gets released on something in the not too distant future.

P.S. I think Mr. Vedder's been working out!

Matthew Slater (slater@bandicoot.me.rmit.edu.au):
The crowd tonight seemed more eager than the previous one. Whether that was because of the sheer number of successful Mexican Waves that circled the venue or what, I'm not sure. One of Pearl Jam's greatest attributes live, and the reason I'm seeing all three Melbourne concerts, is that songlist-wise their gigs from one night to the next vary so much. Their roadies must be amongst the hardest working around because I counted three set list changes before the opening strains of the "Red Dot" song even began. Opening with Sometimes (do they always open with a "quiet" one? I could see from my vantage point how comfortable with each other the guys are at the moment.

To start, the highlights:
1) Stone's geriatric dance steps!... Sometimes I think Stone should have starred in a typical American family life sitcom from the 70's, unless it's just those retro glasses he wears.
2) If it wasn't for the hat "fetish" I'd swear Jack and Jeff are twin brothers. The way they fed of each other all night was amazing.
3) And then there's Mike's guitar playing. Tonight it was as if he waited his whole life just for this gig. Alternating between the back of the stage and the very front, he would saunter/jump/boogie to the front and stretch out one amazing lead/fill/ solo after another. Ed seemed a bit more talkative tonight even with the absence of the previous night's bottle of red wine.

Surprises included:
1) A seated, solo Ed playing what I think is a new song I'll call "Trouble" as that is the word that featured in the chrous. The song was very much in the vain of Wishlist.
2) Ed swapping a t-shirt with a fan for his tambourine.
3) Ed stalking the extremities of the front of the stage speaker stacks to shake hands with people down below in the pit. Playing guitar whilst laying flat on his back on the stage. His Go-Go dancing to the crowd at certain times.

Again I was "surprised" by the number of songs from No Code that got an airing, not that that's a bad thing.

Other highlights inlcuded:
1) Another fantastic rendition of Faithfull
2) A game of Paper, Rocks, Scissors to decide which song to play next, as it turns out Mike must have won, because after the false start to Daughter they launched into Given To Fly. They followed this by Daughter with a segue into The Wall with the crowd doing all of the singing.

Wishful thinking maybe, but I've got a feeling that Thursday night's concert, seeing as it's going to be broadcast live across the whole of Australia, is gonna be something special.

Details:
On initially from 9:14-10:31, with the one encore from 10:35-10:55.

PS: To those who have just seen Pearl Jam, cool wasn't it? To those about to see Pearl Jam, you're in for a treat!

Trevor Clarke (T.Clarke@latrobe.edu.au):
It was fantastic! Pearl Jam are always great live. This time they were phenomenal. Perhaps the fact that they all seemed happy (smiling) had something to do with it? Anywayz, I can't really remeber the order of the songs, it was just a blur of utopia starting with "Sometimes" and ending in "Alive" (and Eddie sporting an "Air Jordan" T-Shirt, product placement rumours to follow).

At least I know they played the following: Habit, Jeremy, Once, Corduroy, Black, Brain of J, Faithfull, Even Flow, Given To Fly, Red Mosquito, State of Love and Trust, Animal, Last Exit, Hail Hail. I'm sure there were others too. Eddie treated us to a new song (I think he said he wrote it that day?), just him and guitar. If they decide to name it after the chorus then it will probably be called "Trouble".

Can't say much more. The energy there was incredible. While everybody was eyes on Eddie, I personally was thinking to myself, "Jeff Rocks." He really does. He is unreal!! Ed's voice sounded damn superb. Guitars as always were alive with a vibe that was...Pearl Jam. Jack was right on target. What a show! What really made the night was the way the guys would look at each other every now and then, and smile. It makes a difference. :) I want to go again!!!!
