Just some things from the Auckland show that were missed.
During Brain of J., I could tell Ed was getting worried about a group of
people that couldn't get up in the front and I wanted him to stop so
they could. Then, when they started again, the same group fell over
and Ed was screaming, "Come on, Come on." and motioning with his hand to get
everybody up. After that, most people realized they didn't want to be in
the mosh and left and things settled down.
Before Even Flow, Eddie said
that, "You guys probably won't understand this but, um, this girl I met a few
days ago, she, um, hadn't had a shit for like 10 days, (everybody
laughs) and we would like to dedicate this song to her.
SOLAT was a request, and Mike had an extended solo during Alive. As Eddie went
climbing and waving, I was feeling sorry for him, he looked exhausted.
Then near the end, Ed was complaining that he couldn't hear the vocals to
the side of the stage and it took many songs until he was satisfied, but
I thought nothing was wrong, sounded great. Then when the came back for
the encore, Ed's voice was perfect for Evolution, sounding much better
than before.
Then before Better Man, Stone grabs some uncooked sausages
and chucks them into the crowd before Eddie stops him and says that he
needs some, and then gets an Americian dollar from his pocket and says
that he would like to donate this to the local surf lifesaving, apparently
some tradition here? Then he gets a lifejacket and says that he always
wears one of these when he goes surfing nowadays and that when he was
rescued he ran up the beach screaming, "Stone, Stone I'm Alive, and then
when he was rescued he said to the lifeguards, Thanks, I'm off for a
smoke and a beer (and Mike holds up his smoke), and, um, I felt really
bad for saying that and I, um, invited them all along tonight and I hope
that they enjoyed themselves." Then once Better Man gets underway the
rest of the band were looking out and smiling at everyone singing, and
again during Ledbetter they were watching everyone looking at Mike and
were all smiling.
One amazing show...
