Natasha Creed (natasha@upnaway.com) I saw Brad when they came on Jan. 9th and watched Stone do this stuff for the whole 40 minute set thinking, "Please come please come." and they came alright...Never doubt Pearl Jam! They took the stage and the crowd went wild. The feeling was incredible. Pearl Jam were here in front of our face. It was happening!!!!!. The fact that I taped this show and that it actually came out blows me away more. The tape recorder was so old but ......the little beauty came through as did Pearl Jam. I listen to it now and think how lucky we are. Complete are we. Pearl Jam played their hearts out and after the first 6 songs Ed spoke. "You know, uh, I'll tell you something about uh, can you stop throwing things? I have a job to do up here, I'm too busy singing to catch every little piece of tacky that comes my way. I was going to say something about attitude if you wanna hear it. (crowd cheers) That's exactly my point, you see a positive attitude will get you everywhere. I'm sure that some of you, if not all of you, understand me to say when you... (someone shouts) Hey, I'm talking here. I wanna just say, if I lived in Perth (crowd goes wild) I'd be a pretty lucky guy. The only thing is if I lived in Perth and I found out that this band was playing all other states in Australia but not mine, I would have just said "fuck yourselves." I understand that when Stone was here, Stone got a huge slab of signatures. (massive cheers) I think he did them himself so he could come back here ...anyways...uh...cheers to your positive attitude and for inviting us here." They
then blasted into Even Flow as
tight and as powerful as ever. Nothing beats Even Flow live. Corduroy
whipped the joint. I Got Shit
touched probably every soul in that building. I shalln't go into every
song cause every song
is a magic moment. Have you seen the band in its newfound happy self?
Well...them on stage is a thrill......Eddie jumping around and dancing
and going wild. How he is now reminds me of how he was in the very
beginning before all the fame shit got to him. During Alive he pulled a
guy up from the stage and spun him around on his back and put him on
his shoulders. I couldn't believe how Eddie handled this. I'm surprised
he didn't break his back. This guy was a pretty big strong guy. What a
moment for that lucky guy! Leatherman was requested and I love this song soooo much and I got the
rare moment on tape..
.....ha!ha! This was off the top of their heads and was
fantastic. Instant Leatherman! Stone was jumping on the spot joyfully
bopping up & down to this one banging a tambourine This image of
Stone with the tambourine jumping on the spot will never be erased from
my mind. It was a classic
moment. When do you see Stone without a guitar and getting off to the
music? I seem to have a soft
spot for Stone... The encore is absolutely brilliant...everything a Pearl Jam fan would have asked for......Once was incredible...as was Alive. The crowd went ballistic ... Immortality was up next...Jack's extended drum fills at the end of this was total joy. Better Man got the crowd in a singing, rejoicing frenzy. and Surprise! Surprise! The highlight of the night...My highlight anyway...Baba O'Riley was played. It was awesome...the best...fantastic. I totally love this song; it's my all time fav song by The Who......and I got this on tape too. Joy! Joy! Eddie's voice was amazing on this. Pete would have been mighty proud of this performance. I'm sure he already is!!!!!. Given To Fly was also another highlight. This song live will always grab me by the guts.....lifts me high to the sky alright. Mike kept in his space for the whole night but came out with fantastic guitar work. I think we sometimes forget about Mike. He is the one responsible for the awesome guitar solos which are Pearl Jam's trademark. He gives the songs the extra excitement and skill. He is a legend! Jeff was really into it, moving around a lot. Moving his body around and really giving those bass strings a hard time.. Stone was in his usual happy marching...jumping on the spot...bopping..tambourine banging-self.......as I mentioned before. Jack is fabulous - total fabulous drummer...really keeps the band together as a unit. After these shows he must be exhausted!!! and Eddie...well you know Eddie.....he's the singer...up to his usual top form...voice as amazing and as perfect as ever...always knowledgable on his surroundings and what's going on in the city he's in...up to his usual stage antics. I'm not the least bit surprised that Eddie spent some days down at Yallingup surfing....I thought Yallingup? or..Margaret River? or somewhere down there. It's also funny in other ways cause when I found out Pearl Jam where coming on my walkman listening to JJJ, I was exactly at Yallingup with my family having a wonderful time snorkeling and finding some great stuff under the ocean. I lay under the big rock down there and think about Pearl Jam coming and get all excited with images in my mind and Eddie ends up at that beach. Well....there's my story.......Pearl Jam came. My dream came true. Perth's dream came through........Pearl Jam came through...Eddie had a surf....Stone and Jeff played tennis...they dined Cottesloe but not saying where... heh heh... and we all had a smashing great time all round...I'm seeing them tomorrow night in the mosh...can't wait!. My 3rd time....!!!!!! I know when I send this I'm gonna be mad with something I forgot to put in which was vital but this is all I can come up with. I have a 64 page, A4 book filled with stuff on my trip to Adelaide to see them and this show. and now tomorrow's show.... I need a new book....see ya!!!!!!!! |
