Last night I attended the PJ concert at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
Never before have I attended a concert that gave me goosebumps at the
beginning of every song. The music on the CD is excellent, but Pearl Jam LIVE
is a completely different story. One hour and fifty minutes of adrenalin;
that's one way to put it. The band's character is exceptional, music
undescribable, and atmospheric.
I'm inspired guys... all I can say is I guess: ROCK ON!!!
Will Trippas (trippas@zip.com.au):
Wednesday night was absolutely brilliant. I was beginning to think
myself lucky after Dead Man was played on Monday night, but Wednesday
was special too.
Shudder To Think again dedicated Pebbles to Ed as they opened to a
more responsive crowd than Monday.
At about 9:00, (I don't really know as I don't wear a watch) Pearl Jam
came on smiling and ready to play as they opened with Oceans to
perhaps tell the crowd of their day surfing Australia's beautiful
shores.
This was followed by Last Exit, and the set regulars of Brain of J.,
Hail Hail, Corduroy, Evolution, MFC and Wishlist (I don't know what
order any of the songs really went in except for the encore).
A little before half way through the set, Stone decided...."OK, I
wanna sing one." as he ripped into Mankind with the typical excitement
only Stone can enthuse. Ed sang backups and bopped along to his
bandmate's voice at the side of the stage. When Stone finished his
singing debut in Australia (which was well received), he gave himself
a big hug and yelled into the microphone, "They like me, they really
like me!!!"
The next highlight of the night was the tag of Daughter which was
Push Me, Pull Me. After about 30 seconds of the song, the crowd began
to wake up and realise what the song was with loud echoes and
distorted guitars. It was surprisingly good for such an eclectic
song, done well live, considering.
The set was filled with In Hiding, Even Flow, Black, Small Town,
Lukin, Given To Fly and Porch. During Mike's solo part in Porch, Ed
gets a guy from the crowd up onto the stage and spun him on his
shoulders, this was then reversed.
Next the encore, which began with Not For You which was really good
as with Better Man, Immortality (especially Mr. Irons' drum solo at the
end), Smile and Rocking In The Free World. Ed mentions something
about finishing early because they got a letter from some 13 year old
that need to be home by 11:00 because of their parents. The crowd
boos as Eddie informs us that it is silverchair though. Ed then says
they have to go to bed early really because they are surfing again
tomorrow.
Tonite was a great night and the atmosphere perfect. How do you
compare Pearl Jam concerts though???????
Ka-on (kaon@accsoft.com.au):
Reading the previous fanviews, it looks like positive remarks take the
majority of views...I totally agree with all those remarks about
Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam is the BEST band in the world and Eddie Vedder is
just one in a million!! Anyway, I really like your page and i'm
beginning to visit it everyday now! =)
Well the concert was the best concert I've been to, I think the
highlights of the night was Daughter, Eddie's short moonie and the guy
on the stage. Though my seats weren't that great, I still enjoyed the
concert to the max. EXCEPT, they didn't play their classic!! 2 nights
in a row, Monday and Wednesday, they didn't play Alive!! 2 of my
friends actually cried because of this. I also wish they played Jeremy.
It's weird how the 2nd night of all concerts are the worst and the
last night the best. The 2nd concert was actually
the shortest with the least number of songs. =(
Still, I REALLY hope Pearl Jam will come back to Australia, I'm still in
a state of depression because it's over so COME BACK PEARL JAM!!!!!
