Robert Knight, San Jose, CA (threeknights@worldnet.att.net):
I've been going to the Bridge since 1996, The last time "the guys" (as we affectionately refer to them) played. So, I consider myself a Bridge Veteran. We got there a little after 2pm and heard what sounded like Neil doing a little ditty to get the show going. Let me tell you...the placed was PACKED!!! By the time we got through the gates, at 2:30pm, there was NO MORE SPACE on the lawn. That has never happened in my past Bridge experiences.

We found some decent lawn seats in the much coveted shade using a method I like to call, "Shrinking the walkway," and caught the tail end of Emmylou Harris' set. She has a beautiful voice. I don't really like Shoreline Amphitheatre very much, but it sure has great acoustics.

Flash Forward...
After Emmylou, we settle down and start our Bridge ritual of drawing tatoos on each other with Sharpie pens. (don't try this at home. we only do it once a year) We also invented a new game that I highly recommend. It's called, "Who will step on the baby carrot?" You take a baby carrot and toss it on to the walkway and watch the feet until someone steps on it. Although it may not sound fun, it was very exciting. It can also evolve, (do the evolution) into "Who will step on the cookie container?" "Who will step on the apple core?" and many others. I only mention it because it comes in handy during set changes! So, as you now know, we weren't really paying attention to the stage, all of the sudden *the voice* says, "OK, It's always fun and anything can happen with these guys...The Who!! jaws drop! What?!?!? Now?!?!? COOOOL!!!! Usually the order of appearance is more predictable, this year they shook it up, which was good for anticipation's sake.

Let me tell you, I'd never seen these guys together, (I'm only 23) but I've always liked them. They are soooo inspiring to watch. They really love to rock out!!!! Damn, they were going crazy. Pete was moving around and doing wicked "strum" solos. And Roger was doing the spinning mic thing. It was very energizing. I just can't do it justice over this blooming computer. Go rent a concert video of The Who and picture Pete with less hair, Roger with "Dawson's Creek" hair, John looking cool as always and you've got them now. Just as amazing, and sooooo powerful.

*I want to say that although I'm skipping the rest of the artists to get to PJ, I was humbled and impressed with everyone who took the stage at the show. It is truly a wonderful thing that Neil and Peggy do every year for the children and bay area music fans. The energy surrounding this concert fills the air and demonstrates the amazing power of music, the people who play it, and those of us who get to be a part of it's magic*

Flash ahead...
One thing I noticed all night...A LOT of respect for PJ. It was in the air. With such a tremendous group of talented musicians all in one place, we could feel a lot of respect and admiration for PJ. It was cool. It was the first time in my life I had ever felt like they were some kind of Big Time Rock Band. I guess up until last night, I just thought of them as a group of guys from Seattle who liked to rock. Now they were sharing the stage with The Who and it all hit me that they weren't just some guys I went to school with that started a band. They have reached into many more hearts than just mine and I felt like I was surrounded by 20,000 friends.

So they took the stage to loud roars and they were all smiles. Ed mentions how much he has enjoyed being there for the past two days, and says we get...A NEW SONG!!!! It's a slow one. Ballad-like, and very good. Lots of Mike lead, which can bring tears to your eyes with the echo you get in this place. *I love going to PJ shows because you can just close your eyes and listen, and you don't miss a thing. It's almost better if you do.*

Very spirited set...I can't remember them all...Better Man, Daughter (which was kind of funny because I was wondering who would get the "end tag" honors on a night when a couple of the artists Ed tags on the end were in attendance...He opted for the, "less is more" no tag at all). Black (Mike appeared to have guitar trouble during the solo, but he still got busy) Off He Goes (dedicated to Keith Moon) . Wishlist and Last Kiss (sung to a young lady from the Bridge school. Ed turned around and sang to her with a big smile on his face and she REALLY enjoyed it. It was very sweet and just typified the kind of good things that happen at the Bridge.

Basically, I would never miss a Bridge Benefit. It is unlike any other concert. I've been to all kinds of other concerts and the Bridge will be the one I bring my kids to when I'm 40. I'm glad more people got to see it with the web broadcast, I only wish the feeling in the atmosphere could be broadcast as far, maybe the whole world would be different. If you think I'm crazy, go to the show.

Thanks PJ.

I have to tell you I was at both nights of the Bridge School and that new song rocks. I was fortunate enough to have killer sec 102 for both nights and could really see how happy Eddie and the band are looking these days!!!

Andy, Miami, FL (Alop133@aol.com):
Night One: I was sitting in my bedroom nothing else to do on a Saturday night. I logged on the net and listened and "watched" the live broadcast. Night one featured a new song, which title I did not get. My seating was kind of obstructed by net congestion about 3 or 4 times. Besides the new song, the boys played "Footsterps," which totally threw me off my rocker. The images coming through my screen made the band look like they were really having a good time. Different set from what I am accustomed to.

Night Two:No net congestion this night. I got through the whole show uninterrupted. The set started with another new song. It was rather slow, along the lines of the "No Code" time period. The band then moved on to a great rendition of Daughter, with no tag. Mike seemed to be wearing a mask, I don't know if he was trying to be zorro gayblade or the green lantern. Off He Goes was dedicated to Keith Moon. Ed talked about how Keith would have really enjoyed the two shows this weekend. Then there was the most touching part of the two nights that I have been glued to my laptop. Ed dedicating the next song,Last Kiss, to the kids of the Bridge School. I wasn't there and had a blurry picture but you could see the happiness on the faces of some of the kids. Another wonderful set.

The sound quality was like that of an old AM transistor radio, but I thoroughly enjoyed the show. These two highly emotional evenings even carried through the highly impersonal cyber space. Two wonderful nights of music and a wonderful cause over all.
