July 28, 1999, Ed Sullivan Theatre, New York, New York
Brian SaenzDeViteri: (bsbeamer@yahoo.com) I just got back from NYC. It's now 10:07pm on 7-28-99. I went to see Eddie and Pete at the Late Show with David Letterman. I was 5 feet away from the CBS Orchestra. Ed and Pete played at the end of the show as the musical guests always do. Their set was as follows: Heart to Hang Onto, Magic Bus. The songs took about 10 minutes total, maybe 11 or 12 at most. They taped both of them with the studio cameras, but will probably only air Heart To Hang On To. Both songs were played with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra. Pete played his red guitar, looked kinda like a Yamaha, but don't hold me to it. Ed sang vocals only. You'll see the outfit on the show tonight. As you will also see, Pete screwed up (or the CBS sound crew, still can't really figure it out) at the beginning of Heart to Hang On To. I don't think his amp mic was on or something was messed up. Maybe the speakers facing him were off. I'm not sure. He started it like 3 times and then took off. It ROCKED!!! Magic Bus rocked as well! Ed did some vocals on that and it seemed to be played during the commercial break. They taped it all, but will probably not air it. Ed and Pete and the CBS Orchestra, along with Paul Shaffer rocked for a little after the vocals were done and Ed was on stage doing a little dance. It was so cool! They were both about 5 feet away from me and they played in front of the orchestra, not the usual center stage. As far as a "secret show" or "appearance" afterwards goes...Ed left the Ed Sullivan Theater and got swamped by money hungry "fans." Some true fans that just wanted to get a glimpse, but most were there for an autograph only. I would have been happy with a smile or a nod or even a handshake or a hello, but Ed was really busy and he got into the limo and left. Pete soon followed and almost no one even noticed him. People chased Ed's limo, but the limo driver went out of the way a little bit to lose everyone. After that escapade, I went over to the Supper Club. There was Ed's limo parked and Pete's as well. They were both inside, so that was probably all for the appearance. But Ed's limo stayed and Pete's left, so who knows. I didn't know much happening, so I stayed for a little and then left. I had no chance of getting into the Supper Club. Invite only with mostly record execs. Hope this helps! :) Brian Kevin Pott: (kevin.pott@cgocable.ca) |
