October 7, 2000, The Palace; Detroit, MI
Augie (augpound@hotmail.com): Pearl Jam and the Story of the Red, White and Blue Wristband WHAT A NIGHT! This was my third PJ show, so I knew I was in for a treat, but I never thought I'd actually come in contact with Mr. Vedder himself. They truly do love their fans. (and Eddie DOES see everything from that stage!) I got to the Palace around noon to get in line for my ten club tickets. After only two hours of waiting they opened the box office up around 2:00 pm. Being a native of the Detroit area this left me plenty of time to drive home instead of having my friend Ali meet me at the Palace. I was just about to leave when I remembered my wristbands. This summer I worked in a factory where we had red, white and blue wristbands (just like the ones Eddie wore throughout the European tour and first leg of US) I figured I'd bring two to wear, and one to throw to Eddie (his looked a little worn) SO, we got to the show - fourth row thanks to Ten Club - and watched Supergrass. They were very tight and fun to watch. It wasn't long until we heard Baba O'Riley on the speakers and the chill came. The lights went down and the boys came out and got things rocking with "Go" How awesome! They continued to rock out (SOLAT right in the beginning) and then slowed it down a little (Elderly Woman was dedicated to Detroit, who Eddie said "Is getting smaller every day") Everything was perfect. They went into "Daughter" which went into "WMA" and I decided to toss Eddie my wrist band. HOWEVER, Jeff got it and put it on!!! I jumped up and showed him my other two and he smiled. So they kept on rocking and I kept on jumping with my hands in the air, UNTIL during "Spin the Black Circle" Eddie saw my wristbands! After the song he came over and called me to the stage! He gave me his wristband, and asked me to trade him one of my new ones!!! We switched and he said thanks. I could barely walk back to my seat. (I *think* "Crazy Mary" was being played by then) The whole thing ended with an all out jam of "Fucking Up" dedicated to former Detroit Piston Dennis Rodman (who was in attendance) OH, and another notable dedication would have to be "Last Kiss" for Ralph Nader. Well, I know this is pretty fragmented, but THANKS PEARL JAM! You guys rocked and to see Jeff and Eddie wearing my wristbands was more than I could have asked for. 2 for 1 is fine with me! THANKS TEN CLUB FOR THE TICKETS! THANKS FANS FOR BEING THE BEST! THANKS.... Augie
