First off, I really want to thank the Ten Club for the incredible seats. I was a little nervous not having tickets on the way to the show, but after I picked them up and saw the words "PIT" on the top, I knew I was in for a surreal experience.

Sometimes in these fanviews we get too caught up in the best band in the world, that we forget to acknowledge the opener. Supergrass did an incredible job tonight, and my friend who is a big Supergrass fan, said that they filled the big venue perfectly...which I strongly supported. So, make sure you get out early enough to catch Supergrass!! You might even get a personal thank you from Eddie as the 2 guys in the 3rd row who danced through the entire Supergrass set found out tonight.

Okay, on to the good stuff. The crowd was quite deceiving at first, because it looked like they might be a crowd of "sitters," but the minute they started playing that 'Baba O'Riley' opening the crowd really got into a frenzy. Long Road sounded excellent, and was a perfect way to start the show. They tore threw Breakerfall, Corduroy, Whipping, Hail, Hail, and Animal....it was clear that the band was really ON tonight. Eddie hitting every note perfectly, Mike playing incredibly and yet still finding time to flirt with all the ladies in the front rows (You're busted Mike!!!). NAIS was intro'd as a "deep, dark, depressing song" after Eddie was talking lightheartedly to the crowd. Given To Fly was an incredible version and seemed to be a crowd favorite...someone had thrown up lei's for the band earlier in the night, which Eddie passed around for everyone to wear, and he intro'd GTF as "a song written in Hawaii." Untitled was the L2L version with no extra verses. Before Wishlist, Eddie reaches in his pocket and pulls out a picture. He holds it up for everyone to see and says that this is his nephew and that he's a Texan. At the end of the song, Eddie improvs "I wish I was a better uncle, but someday I think I can" or something close to that. Betterman sounded incredible! Amazing how some of these songs seem to reinvent themselves again and again. Evacuation was a pleasant surprise, and it was quite clear why they don't play it very often---it tears Eddie's throat up. He was really straining to get those last few 'evacuations' out....even grabbing his throat and laughing with the crowd. Stone intro'd the next song as an "obscure" song, and told us he was going to sing one. The entire band busts into Mankind...everyone except for Mike that is. Mike was completely playing another song, and they had to stop the song. The band was laughing at him and the crowd gave a big cheer for the mess-up. Maybe he was too busy smiling at all the lovely ladies in the front row. Before the encore, we were treated to a trio of Ten songs that really sent the crowd to the next level.

The encore came out with 2 rockers and then Eddie introduced Sleight of Hand as "this is a song about what happens over here, while you're looking over there...it's called Sleight of Hand." This was easily my music highlight of the night. The "improv" Eddie tried to do actually didn't work out so well. The band was standing around while the spotlight rested on Eddie's face, and it started out like we were in for a Bush-bashing improv song. But, Eddie seemed to hit a "improv-block" and couldn't get past the first couple of lines. He kept playing and trying to give himself time, and the entire band stood behind him laughing their asses off about it...even Eddie started laughing at the end.

The second encore Eddie came out by himself to play Soon Forget. He thanked Houston and then quoted Keith Moon by making a comment about all the millionaires in Houston. He said all the millionaires would mostly be in the front rows, not "in the lawn smoking pot." He started playing, and I was surprised he didn't ask for complete silence as he usually does. He was actually bobbing his head to the claps. Right before the "counts his money every morning" line, he stops and says "it just broke" referring to the ukelele. The crowd started slapping the chairs making this incredible roar, and Eddie starts looking around and says "what the fuck is that?"...having no idea where it's coming from. When he realizes, he busts right back into the song where he left off, broken ukelele and all. The rest of the band came out for Yellow Ledbetter with Jeff and Stone switching instruments.

This was an incredible show, and the seats were WICKED! Once again PJ, you continually blow my mind. See you Sunday night!!
