Simon (s_sherratt@yahoo.com): I haven't heard of The Monkeywrench before, but I liked some of the Mudhoney stuff and I did enjoy some of the tunes, but the guitarist stole the show here, completely insane, Tom I think he name was... totally nuts! After what seemed a long time Pearl Jam came and hit us with Sometimes & Grievance. Corduroy was where I started singing along, as well as just about everyone else in the place, Hail Hail was next, this has been one of been one of my favorites. Animal just tore the place up with dissident slowing things down a touch. Jeff, this has to be said this was the first time I have seen him without a hat! sat down and nothing as it seems was played. In hiding was next, another of my favorites, fantastic. They dedicated Even Flow to the insane guy from The Monkeywrench. Thin Air followed, everybody already knew all the words! Eddie told us he wrote Habit about a personal experience. 'Untitled' followed, which goes brilliantly into MFC, which is just rockin'. Off he goes followed by Daughter, with a little groove tacked into it. The place again started shaking for Not For You and I thought the walls were going to go the first second State of Love and Trust started, amazing... Immortality followed by a blistering Rearview Mirror to close the show. After a little time passed Eddie came back onstage and told us that Mike had hit him with his guitar, funny stuff Mike seemed to be a target for everyone from then on! Light years started off the encore, followed by an intense do the evolution, last exit followed, then Elderly woman had 12,000 people screaming "HELLO!!" so loud I can still hear it, Black had the compulsory load of lighters in the air and Alive closed the night. The group just all seemed in a great mood, stunning... I can't wait to see Pearl Jam again. Amazing. The tube journey home did provide one interesting point to all the cozy people aboard, the driver came over the speakers informing us that Jeremy had spoken and that the train is about to pull out. He also asked us how Eddie and the boys were to yet more screams from all board, what a night... Incidentally is anyone has copies of this show, please mail me! Tim (tim.c@virgin.net): Off He Goes, Hail Hail, Daughter, Corduroy, MFC and a stunning In Hiding kept me beaming like the moon and a brilliant run-through of Alive - complete with the voices of the whole arena - meant for a memorable show that allowed me to lose my PJ virginity finally..... and I hope to run in to them again in the not too distant future!! |
