Rock Im Park was similar to Rock Am Ring, but it was an actual stadium, so the acoustics were a little better. If you ever make it to Germany and want to have a good time, go in June and head to one of these three day festivals. They are like a combination of Woodstock and Lollapalooza, and if you are really lucky, Pearl Jam is headlining the festival. Sunday's show was great. The sky opened up once again, as it always does in Germany, and it was hailing during Live's performance. It was cold and Pearl Jam was still a few hours away, and I think a lot of people were wondering if the weather was going to ruin the show. Luckily, the rain and hail stopped and it warmed up slightly by the time Pearl Jam took the stage. Eddie came out wearing his Vietnam era Army top and dog tags around his neck. They opened with MFC, which was unexpected but exciting nonetheless. They played a lot of heavy, short songs like Habit, Breakerfall, and Lukin' which were a welcome treat to me, but I don't think that the majority of the crowd knew a lot of the songs on the set that night. Stone seemed to be in a better mood at this show and Mike and Jeff were exciting to watch. Matt Cameron was wearing a pretty cool shirt with the sleeves cut off that had a list of things that he hates on the back like, "I hate cops. I hate music." It was interesting to read, but I don't remember everything on the list. Eddie played a lot of guitar tonight, did a lot of windmills, and ended each number with a jump, Townshend style. Jeff did one too. Mike was going for a lot of feedback and distortion throughout the show, as he headed up close to the amps and playing really hard against them. The musical result was great. Eddie's voice sounded a little strained tonight, but it was barely noticeable.

The best part of the night was when they broke into "Leatherman." Eddie commented that this song was actually written either by or about a German. Also, I don't remember what song it was, but Eddie asked if anyone saw them in Hamburg in March 1992 when they played it. He said he remembers the night because it was Jeff's birthday and it was also the last time he (Eddie) took a shower. He said that we were probably feeling the same way after three days of camping. I was really excited to hear them play "Off He Goes" that night because that song is just so different live than it is on the album. It sounds like a totally different song, it is just great. Before playing "Better Man," Eddie made another choice comment when he said, "So, this song is about a young Republican," referring to his stepfather, Peter Mueller, who is a lawyer. Eddie was talking a lot about the moon, and did a great improv song about the moon. One more reason to buy this CD when it is released because it was a really good song followed by an outstanding Rearviewmirror. The band began wrapping the show up with "Leaving Here" which Eddie dedicated to all the German girls who want to grow up and become soccer players. They only did one encore tonight and that was Yellow Ledbetter. It was pretty clear again, but not as clear as Rock am Ring. Mike's guitar solo was better though at Rock Im Park. He really impressed my friend who was seeing them for his first time, with his intricate guitar work. My other friend who came along for his first show, ran out and bought Live on Two Legs the next day because the show was so awesome. The band left the stage, but Eddie stayed on to take some Polaroids, and even threw one of them to the crowd before departing. The set was pretty short and I think that it was because they had to play early the next day in the Netherlands at the Pinkpop Festival.
