PearlJamFan18@aol.com: There's only one word to describe tonight's show...amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think Pearl Jam could have given a better opening performance, and this show was a steal for 33 bucks. They opened up with a great version of "LONG ROAD" and it really got the crowd up and off their feet. Then came a brilliant performance of "Corduroy" just as classic as it could be. My two favorite songs from BINAURAL came next, and back - to - back as I predicted,,,,,, "Gods' Dice" and the almighty "Grievance." Pearl Jam kept up the pace with a driving version of "Animal" that made us all go crazy!!!! Ed finally spoke to the crowd saying, "It's great to be here tonight." The tempo then slowed as they ventured into some of their slower but uplifting songs such as "Thin Air," "Nothing As It Seems," "MFC" and a surprise song entitled "It's OK" where Vedder asked the crowd to repeat after him and chant "It's OK" as an echo while he gave what seemed to be an enlightening eulogy for the fans who died at Roskilde. Ed mentioned that he was a little nervous about going on due to the recent tragedies, but that he was getting pretty comfortable. Then came "Wishlist" accompanied by a beautiful disco ball and everyone's lighters flying in the air. Some of the songs that rounded out a pretty upbeat second half of the show were, "Daughter," a magnificent "Even Flow", "Better Man," and the always popular, "Rearviewmirror." "Insignificance" sounded beautiful and the group was performing at top notch. Finally, one of my all time favorites and a constant closer, "Porch" was slammed out by Eddie and the boys with all the emotion you could ask for. They disappeared for a while but came back out for the 1st encore including "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter.......," "Given To Fly" and "Do The Evolution." To close the first encore, the group played one of the greatest versions of "Black" I've ever heard. Then they went backstage again for a couple minutes, but after the crowd began shouting "Eddie, Eddie, Eddie," they came on for some more. "Sleight of Hand," one of the more poetic songs on the new album, seemed perfectly in place, and I was thrilled at how great it really sounded live. The group retreated once again but Vedder stayed and someone threw him their "Vedder" hockey jersey as Ed replied, "Thanks, thanks a lot." He then pulled out a ukulele from under his jacket and began "Soon Forget," as he commented on how it had been a while since he played the song. He flubbed up a line or two, whispering "oh shit" with a huge smile on his face. The entire band then came out and closed with an amazing performance of "Yellow Ledbetter." Mike's solo at the end was beautiful, long, and capped off a perfect show!!! Ed "goodbyed" the crowd stating, "We made it" and "Virginia Beach,,,,,,, you'll always have a place in my heart." This was the greatest night of my life and, I don't see how it could have been better. Our seats were very close, the crowd was loving it, and Pearl Jam was just plain amazing!!!!!! This definitely proves that Pearl Jam is back on track, and that they'll be around for a long time!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING,,,,,,,,,.............JUST AMAZING!! Doug and Tricia Shoup (tric66@bellatlantic.net): Some of the highlights....Ed wanted to light the place up to see everyone after Animal....During Daughter, he talked about the problems they had the last time they asked the crowd to do something...then he asked us to sing...sing loud...because we are outside...sing loud...and went into "Its OK" with crowd response....Great strobes with Rearviewmirror...Ed got close to the crowd for Porch...Elderly Woman was a truly Spiritual event...the crowd was so into the whole show...Ed and the band seemed to feed off of the energy and even smiled when we beat him to the lyrics. Lit the place up for Ledbetter, then said goodnight...... Great show overall...hope everyone else down the road gets even better shows.... |
