Jeremy Roach (jeremy.roach@mail.house.gov): First off I would like to say congrats to Ten Club for an excellent job with tickets. Membership definitely has it privileges, had 2nd row in between Mike and Eddie. Awesome to say the least (also caught a Mike guitar pic after Porch). Anyhow, told Courtney, Katemyers and Ben that we were in for a slow opener, and that I would prefer to see Long Road (my favorite opener). The guys were nice enough to oblige my request and it was awesome. Ed sporting a beard, Mike wearing a tank top, Jeff some long shorts with black sox pulled all the way up, Stone khaki shorts. The band seemed to be in very good spirits all throughout the show. After Long Road, kicked straight into Corduroy (Mike still playing the flying V complete with glow in the dark stickers) followed by Grievance -- which flat out just kicks ass -- good complement to Corduroy. Gods' Dice followed as did Animal, both being the get the crowd going songs. Nothing As It Seems was slow and methodic, but I dig the new stand up bass that Jeff uses, looks more like a cello, but black. Given To Fly was up next, and is still the great anthemic arena song that it was last tour. Even Flow after that, this song always gives me goosebumps, this was the first Pearl Jam song that I ever heard which immediately hooked me to this band. MFC up next continuing the rocking anthemic arena songs. Wishlist followed with the return of the mirror ball, at the end of the song when Ed sang "I wish I wish I wish" over and over again, he said something else, but it was not audible in the english language. Off He Goes was up next and he dedicated it to Anthony, who from what I have read was one of the people killed at Roskilde. Love that song. Afterwards, Daughter was up, which was the last song in Copenhagen -- song was long, nearly 8-10 minutes, tag was Its Ok by Dead Moon I believe. Crowd sang along as well. This was then followed by Better Man, unfortunately, no Save it For Later tag. Thin Air was next which Ed mentioned was a song written by Stone. Up next was Insignificance which clearly to me is one of the best songs they have ever done. Ed fucked up in the middle of the song, sang, I fucked up, after which the band stopped, the lights went completely dark and then they kicked back in where the left off. This song is easily the best on Binaural (which they played 8 songs from). Up next came to the 2 jam songs, RVM and Porch. Everyone knows how awesome those are (added bonus, I caught a Mikey pic) -- Porch wasn't as long as it is, but it was nice to see it close out the 1st set. The 1st encore was incredible, all the songs just flowed great and had the audience in awe. Evolution up first, Ed dancing is always a hoot. Afterwards we had light years, Black, Small Town, and Sleight of Hand. WOW! 4 incredible slower songs. I was loving every second of this show. 1st encore closed with Go which got everyone riled up again. Ed then showed a book that someone had made that said Memories of a Girl on it, also a poster that said Nader for president (which Ed commented if all of you who just cheered all voted for Nader the country would be a better place, something to that effect). Ed then pulled his ukulele out from a towel that was covering, played soon forget, fucked up a few times, but laughed it off. Then the rest of the band came out, played Ledbetter, and let Mike do his thing. MVP of this show for me was Mike. Very animated and responds to the crowd very well, also I caught a pic which I have been trying to do forever now (took me 11 shows). Awesome opening show, which means they will be kicking ass all tour long. Long drive to North Carolina Sunday, but of course its worth it. See you all there. |
