First off, it should be noted that Ed is the best dancer in music today! The moves he flashed during Given To Fly and Do The Evolution would leave dance clubs around the world speechless. This guy is truly SMOOTH - the coolest man ever.

LONG ROAD was a great version-- Ed changing the lyrics near the end to "how I wished for THEM today" gave me chills... After ANIMAL (by the way, HAIL HAIL was on the setlist at this spot, but they played ANIMAL instead), we heard Eddie talk... "Could you light up the back at all?... alright... don't want to hurt ya on the hill... it's a little wet out there, be careful, alright?... an uh.. I'd like to say... while Sonic Youth was playing, I was really impressed the way you guys handled yourself. So glad you appreciated a great, great band." He then went on to introduce NAIS. GIVEN TO FLY was a definite favorite, with Eddie flashing those killer dance moves during it. MFC was cool too, and he sang the "There's a lot to be said for HERE" lyric. Yes there was a lot to be said for being there for the opener after driving 5+ hours that day. During WISHLIST, Ed gave a HUGE smile:o) when the 30,000 threw their arms up at "50 million hands upraised..." part of the song. He also added in the ending from the studio version ("I wish I was the radio song, the one you could turn up") and then twelve (yes 12) "I wish"es before he ended with "I guess it never stops."

He introduced OFF HE GOES by saying, "There was a guy named Anthony and this was his favorite song. It's called OFF HE GOES." I think if I knew that Anthony was one of the 9 from Rokslide, I would have been crying. Ed was very powerful during this one. DAUGHTER and the IT'S OK tag was the highlight of the night for me. "The last time... the last time that we had to ask the crowd to do something was under very different circumstances than this. So, it's a little nerve racking to... it'd be nice to start anew. So I was going to ask you to do something and maybe you'd do it. It's singing... sing. And sing loud cause it's outside. Sing loud cause you're still alive. Just sing loud, alright... So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna say... IT'S OK... and you're gonna sing IT'S OK." The next couple of minutes just truly rocked. Eddie owned us and we loved it. More lyrics from it IT'S OK -- "This is our life. This is our chance. This is my hope in an alleyway. This is my chance. This is my voice. There may be no tomorrow now..."

THIN AIR was introduced a little later as "This is Stone's song." He did his thing and it was great. Mike took a break and SAT DOWN on his speaker or amp next to him and just watched Stone... that was really cool. INSIGNIFICANCE was rocking. Ed "f***ed up" as he said, but it didn't matter. REARVIEWMIRROR was a great version, and all 4 guys jammed on their guitars as they stood in a small circle in front of Matt during the extended jam- a great shot, too bad I didnt bring a camera. For the encore, EVOLUTION was great- more dance moves by Mr Vedder. LIGHT YEARS was a slightly faster version than the studio version, but still great. BLACK had the usual intensity- during Mike's solo at the end of the song, Eddie stepped back up to the mic to add a little "doo doo doo doo doodoo doo", and the audience helped out with the rest of it. ELDERLY WOMAN- Ed changed the words to "My God it's been 2 years, never dreamed you return..." SLEIGHT OF HAND was also a cool surprise for fans of this one.

The final encore was classic-- Eddie coming out with a surprise covered by a towel. Of course it was his ukelele, and soon went into SOON FORGET. He told the crowd to "shhhh" during it-- the man needed silence!! :o) Very cool.. and then YELLOW LEDBETTER wrapped up this memorable night. The usual kick ass solos from Mike and the changing lyrics from Eddie ("I JUST WANT TO STAY").... Not many people heard what was next, but my tape recorder helped me out -- hopefully it'll be clear on the soundboard bootleg (if they come out with US ones!)... Eddie sang, "I'd like to see them, and I still wish it away. And (can't?) live on, live on, live on for another day." More chills... Overall, a classic night. We wanted them to stay too... but they had to get going to Charlotte... Hopefully you were lucky enough to be there like me, Kate, Bob, Kev, Rob, Geno, Chris, Priscilla, Julie, Sue and Cindy. 7th row for me-- thanks TenClub :o)
