August 6, 2000, Coliseum; Greensboro, NC
Dan Martin (dmartin@ese-co.com): Greensboro was the perfect finish for Pearl Jam in NC. I got to see them in Charlotte outside and Greensboro inside. I was just off to the side of the floor seats on the front row. It was about four feet above everyone on the floor. It made for good taping. Unlike Charlotte where a security guy came up and told me I could not record. He took my batteries, but a few minutes later returned with a girl and gave them back to me. Whoever you were, "Thanks." After I got to my seat, I saw this guy with a Pearl Jam sticker that said "Band Driver." I asked what Pearl Jam did today. He said that he picked them up from the airport and took them to K Mart where they bought some bikes and came out of the store riding on them. I wish I could have seen that! The show was incredible! Still no Alive, but they did play Jeremy which was cool. Ed talked about how it had been two days since they last played in NC, but it seemed like ten years. The guys seemed to be in good spirits. They were playing to each other on stage. Ed saw a guy in the front that had a tape recorder. Ed took it and placed it on stage in front of him. Later he poured the guy some of his wine in a cup and handed it to him. He took his recorder and said a few things and then handed it back to the guy. I saw him do something similar to that at the '98 show in Raleigh. Ed later talked about how he was not good with math but wanted to put the absolute value brackets around 'Thank You.' I think the set list speaks for itself. The two North Carolina shows blended nicely to make one killer experience. As they left for the last time after 'Smile.' Matt handed his drum sticks to a guy in a wheel chair that was up on stage. It looked like the guy might of been paralyzed and on a respirator. Ed then went by and said a few things and then they were gone.
Michael McCullen (mkmchef@mindspring.com): WOW. Somehow ordinary words seem insufficient. The fellas really ripped it up tonight and it was a privilege to witness...I didn't have fanclub seats since I didn't get in Ten Club soon enough but I won't make that mistake again. They were really on tonight, just indescribable. Even Flow was amazing..Better Man was brilliant. Black was awesome, and those were all before the encore! First encore; Light years, Crazy Mary, Do the Evolution, Spin the Black Circle, State of Love and Trust. They also did beautiful renditions of Jeremy, Wishlist and Rearviewmirror. My favorite part of the show was right before Crazy Mary, one of my personal faves, Ed was talking to us about a guy down front with a tape recorder, "which is fine," he said. Ed seemed to be amazed that the guy kept his recorder raised up in the air the whole show and said here rest your arm I'll put it right here next to the monitor, and they launch into Crazy Mary. Crowd goes nuts, wonderful time was had by all. Thank you, Ed, Mike, Jeff, Stone, and Matt. Thanks for enriching us with your music and passion.
JUSTICEP2@aol.com: Hey everyone. Just got back from the Greensboro show all I have to say is Mike(awesome)!! The show started out with Of A Girl and kept on rockin' from there. They even broke out Leatherman and Crazy Mary!!!! The guys seemed more into here than they were at Virginia Beach, which had the crowd begging for more. It was priceless, one of the best shows I've seen!!! They ended it with Smile, which seemed fitting. Everyone had fun! I can't wait to see them again!! That's it for now........
The Norths (jnorth@wwgap.net): This concert made the five hour drive from Harrogate Tennessee all worth while. It was truly an amazing show. The set list was great and I was thrilled to hear them play so many songs from Binaural. It was also a very peasant surprise to hear them play Leatherman, Crazy Mary, and In my tree. "In my tree" is one of my favorite songs and I didn't expect to see them play it. They played the first verse of the song different than usual. Matt was the only one playing (Jeff didn't) and Eddie kind of talked through the words. But the band kicked into full gear when Eddie sang "Wave to all my friends, yea". It was great. The whole experience was awesome. My throat hurts from singing at the top of lungs through the whole set. Thank you Pearl Jam. I will never forget the night of August 6, 2000. |
