Eric Saunders: In a sense, I left my house a "Pearl Jam" fan, but returned a fan of "music." Music of all types has always been a release for me. I have seen my share of concerts and somehow never was able to catch PJ at the right moment, but August 6th that all changed. With all due respect to Ten Club, which it so much deserves, my wife and I found ourselves sitting 10th row - Sec. A. Their performance was a visual masterpiece to the eyes and even more beautiful to the ears. Being overseas I was able to collect some live bootlegs that always leaves me in pieces every time I listen to them. This show was no different. Going into the concert I thought that Ed would steal the show, but that was not the case. I had trouble keeping focus on the band as a whole with Mike playing the way he did this night. I had no idea that his talent would take me to the places that he did. The highlight of the show for me was at the end of Black. Mike seemed to take that song to new places that it has never been before, as Ed and Stone were standing together in amazement with smiles on their faces. I will never look at Mike the same again. And I will never look at Pearl Jam as one man again. Mike, your talent amazes myself and the others it touches. You are truly an artist of the times. Ten Club, Thank you for a flawless event that changed my heart forever. The hard work that you put into your job really shows forth. Thanks...... And to Sonic Youth, you really played a great set. Your efforts were not over looked. Matt was checking out your set on our side of the stage, and I thought that showed a lot of class. The version of 100% kicked........
Thanks Pearl Jam......
Beverly Saunders: What can I say, it was AMAZING!! My husband and I spent four months looking forward to August 6th at Greensboro. The anticipation to see this great band was about to kill me. This was my husband's first PJ show after following their music for 10 years and my first concert ever. I got my husband into the Ten Club as a birthday present in December, little did I know it would turn into one of the greatest experiences. Sonic Youth got us all excited and ready for Pearl Jam to come on stage. The lights went down and the crowd went crazy. Pearl Jam was now on stage. They started right into jamming. It was so great. Everyone was screaming and singing right along with Eddie. We were in the Tenth row, thanks to The Ten Club, and we could see everything great. I didn't know who to keep my eyes on. Mike was awesome, he was doing these great solos in almost every song. Eddie talked to us a few times, making you feel like he was your friend. He was extremely nice to some guy who had a tape recorder in the show. Taking it from him at first, but then returning it towards the end of the show. I thank my husband for introducing me to this great band. I now appreciate music in a different sense. For everyone waiting for their turn to enjoy, I say this, It was great and you are going to love it!!! As our six year old daughter Beth would say, "Pearl Jam rocks!". Thank you Pearl Jam and The Ten Club --Beverly Saunders
Eddie Bujans (brewedawakening@pinehurst.net):
Hola! After Sonic Youth warmed the crowd, PJ hit the stage without any fanfare on their part, but, just like a couple of regular guys who happen to be musicians. They started with "Of The Girl" and "Corduroy." You could feel every string on the bass that Jeff touched on these songs. They went into a rockin' and crowd stirring versions of "Insignificance" and "Brain of J" -- Eddie played a black guitar with tremendous heart and tenacity on these songs. Matt wailed on the drums for "Spin The Black Circle," and "Whipping." These songs pumped the band and the crowed up. I thought my heart was going to explode out of my chest, when they went into an electrifying rendition of "Do The Evolution." My favorite tune from PJ. They treated the fans with "Crazy Mary," and "In My Tree." I could not believe they were playing these gems for us North Carolinians. Very Cool. Note: a young boy was on the stage, to the crowds right. I could see him, since I was up front. He was in a wheel chair, and had a device to assist him with breathing. Before the show started, I could see his mother (I think she was his mother) hold up a cd to him. I have no doubt that it was signed by the band for him, as the mother clearly pointed to it several times and muttered to him as she did so. Several times during the concert, Eddie and the other band members acknowledged the young boy's presence by playing their instruments and glancing toward him for a minute or two. I was very emotional already, but this touched my soul. PJ and this woman, made every attempt to show respect and dignity to this young boy. I personally saw Eddie place the harmonica he had played (the last encore) on for "Smile," upon the boys lap. He leaned over to him and said something, turned to the woman and gave her a comforting hug. Before he left the stage, he glanced back at the boy, and waved to him. Moments later, Matt gave him his drum sticks. I tell you folks, the music and the crowd were fantastic, but, that simple gesture of caring and respect that PJ showed toward that young boy and that woman, was music to my soul. And, if you think about it, PJ has always been about touching and liberating peoples' souls.
Thank you Ten club and PJ.
