Dusty Clark (fidlestix5@hotmail.com): If I could say just one thing about this show, it would certainly be religious. Sonic Youth played an awesome set... I'm not a huge fan of them, but I must admit the we're impressive. Even more impressive, though, was a mini-stage act behind the pavilion named Palo Alto. Very Radiohead meets late era Soundgarden... there were very good. Pearl Jam actually opened with some synth form of Baba O'Riley, just barely audible, the Interstellar Overdrive intro to Corduroy. They absolutely rocked the house with that, then Grievance and Spin the Black Circle. They played a rousing version of Dissident, with Mike effortless laying down awesome guitar. In fact the entire band seemed on fire. Brain of J, Animal, and Given to Fly were spectacular, with Stone and Mike trading leads on Brain. Nothing as It Seems was drenched in passion, I thought I was going to explode. Even Flow followed, and it was pretty darn good. Pilate threw a curve at the crowd, but it was incredibly done. Lukin also was a big surprise, and I thought Deer Creek might have come apart during that song, it was very energetic. Light Years was great as expected, Rolling Stone magazine called this song a flop, I would say by the crowd reaction that they are wrong. Eddie lead Betterman off with Romance, and he wailed on the end of the song, holding out a note much longer than anything I've heard him do. Next they played another unexpected, Leatherman. That was a real treat. Not For You whipped the crowd into a frenzy, then came Black. That was so intense, you could almost float away in it. Mike absolutely tore it up with his solos in that song, I stood with my mouth wide open in awe. Stevie Ray and Jimi were definitely smiling, wherever they are : ) Insignificance was really good, they did some cool rhythmic stops in it. They finished this segment with an electrifying version of Go, with McCready doing some behind-the-back guitar heroics. Ed came out solo for Throw Your Arms Around Me, I was so excited to hear them play that song, I totally loved it. Do the Evolution saw some more lead antics from Stone, which was great to see. State of Love and Trust was incredible. The crowd was totally focused on the band all night long, and particularly with this tune. Then, after introducing us to the brilliant moon overhead, the boys lead the crowd in a singalong Crazy Mary. The singing didn't stop with Small Town, it was downright enchanting. Last Kiss further carried the crowd into ecstasy, with Ed asking us to help out in singing the final notes of the song. Pearl Jam have always been an amazing live band, but on the next song, Rearviewmirror, they put the icing on the cake. Absolutelyfrickinggoshdamnedamazing!!! They guys stretched out into an extended jam, kind of reminiscent of Daughter but without lyrics. When they came back in for the final refrain, they erupted. After another pause, they came back out, and as if this concert hadn't already been the best of my life, they played Indifference. I just closed my eyes and sank into heaven. Pearl Jam kicked the evening in the rear on their way out, totally bring down the house with Rocking In The Free World. Mike let us all stand in total awe again, the whole band just seemed to be having a great time, and they played incredible. The show was just amazing. They played so many unexpected things, I was just in heaven. It was truly a religious experience.

AMAZING!!!
Those are a few of my favorite moments but the whole overall setlist was the
real highlight of the show. They pounded out a setlist that mixed old and
new, slow and fast, and was like a wonderful ride that no one wanted to end.
They left the wanting for more taste in my, and I think my friend's, mouth
and we will be seeing them again. I just want to say thank you to the Ten
Club for phenomenal seats and finally thank you Pearl Jam. You don't know
how wonderful it is to have a band that doesn't care about all the
commercial crap, just loves to play, and can do it better than anyone.
THANK YOU Mike, Matt, Jeff, Stone, and Ed. We love You |
