Jen (hoopjd@one.net): What can I say? It was the most surreal evening that I've ever experienced! I can't seem to get this smile off my face! Thanks to the 10 Club for front row center tickets. I can't begin to explain my excitement when I was handed the tickets. My friend and I arrived early just to take it all in. We were both so excited and anxious! Sonic Youth was incredible. So awesome to see what they can do with instruments. Absolutely fascinating. We were up front mesmerized! This was my 5th Pearl Jam concert (Lollapolooza '92, Wisconsin '94, Toledo '96, Indianapolis '98) and they continue to amaze me. I couldn't believe that I was standing with no one in front of me, but the coolest security guy that took care of us all evening. The evening seemed to go by so fast. The band continually blows my mind. Mike was killing me with all his smiles, winks, and jumps. Jeff, Stone, and Matt were incredible, I loved just standing and watching each of them play. Speechless. I have to say that I was completely stunned to have Eddie come over to the side of the stage, point at me, and hand me his pick! I said "thank you" and then thought to myself "did that just happen?" A nice souvenir to cap off my perfect evening. Eddie also tossed his cigarette to my friend which completely made his smoke filled life! My favorite song of the evening would be hard to narrow down, however, I will say the most meaningful to me was "Rearviewmirror," everytime I hear that song I feel a sense of freedom. Last night was no exception. I had to close my eyes and take in every word. For me, the whole evening was a time of soaking in the music and enjoying a perfect evening with my favorite band. My words do not do justice to the evening I experienced last night. I am still on such a natural high! All my thanks go to the band for their dedication and commitment to creating music that moves and inspires. My words are not enough! See you Cincinnati and Columbus!
(jpstew1229@email.msn.com): The six hour drive from Iowa City, Iowa to Indianapolis was long and quite boring. When I got to the Deer Creek amphitheater I had no idea what I was in for. Sonic Youth played a pretty short set and then the lights went out and it was time for Pearl Jam. They opened with Corduroy, followed by Grievance, Spin the Black Circle, etc... It was a fast pace series that got us all fired up. Mr. Vedder then introduced Mike McCready and they went right into Nothing As It Seems...Awesome! By this time I had had the chills about ten times. Leatherman was a great surprise and they finished the first set off with a great version of Black, Insignificance, and Go. Then Eddie came out by himself and did Throw Your Arms Around Me, a dedication to his brother who was in the crowd, who he had not seen since they got back from over seas. The first encore just kept going. Eddie stopped once to say it's too beautiful a night to stop now. He gave a nice transition from Last Kiss to Rearview mirror saying "this next song's also about a car, but not a crash." The second encore began with Indifference and Eddie held up and looked at his cigarette as he sang "I will swallow poison, until I grow immune." Last came and unbelievable version of Rocking In The Free World, which was my favorite song of the night. Someone in front was holding a sing that said "Free World" and Eddie took it and was holding it up, dancing around with it. Overall, the night was fantastic. I was especially impressed with McCready and how he embraced us and made it an interactive show. All of the guys were right on and it was by far the best display of music I have ever encountered. I guess I'll end my saying that this world is full of sandbaggers and these five guys are hard working and you can tell that they are passionate about what they are doing. That, in my opinion, is how they make such great music and have the unbelievable success that they have. |
