It was a beautiful night in Nobleville's, Indiana and an even better night to see Pearl Jam. I started my journey from Chicago to Indy at about 2 pm, thinking that at the most the 180 mile trek would put me at Deer Creek at 6 pm. Unfortunately after endless miles of construction and a very poorly managed entrance to the venue (we're talking well over an hour just to get off the exit to the inner roads to the venue)!, I didn't actually take my seat in the venue until after Sonic Youth finished their set, but luckily before the band hit the stage.

The boys came on at around 8:50 and kicked things off with Instellar Overdrive and then slammed into a great version of Corduroy. Grievance came next followed by an extremely manic and energetic version of Spin the Black Circle after which we heard the first mumbles from Mr. Vedder. Ed commented about how the previous night in Nashville felt like hell because it was so hot, so Indianapolis felt like heaven in comparison. They then flew into Dissent, after which Ed motioned to the other guys to mix it up a bit which led to a really rockous version of Brain of J. The set list continued to rock and surprise (at least me) with Animal next. It didn't look like Ed was counting down the 5 against 1 part but many of us in the crowd took care of it anyway. The crowd then swelled when they gave us a magnificence version of Given to Fly where Ed changed the "he still stands" line to "I still stand." Next up was the only song off of No Code, a fast and furious version of Lukin. I think that this one barely clocked in at a minute and the crowd certainly responded with equal intensity. A beautiful Light Years was next and I have been looking forward to hearing this one live since I fell in love with it on Binaural. It was absolutely lovely. Next up was the first of two special Ed solos. This one came before he went into Betterman. We did indeed get the Save It For Later tag and a Townshend jump at the end before they segued into Leatherman! I was thinking trilogy, but Not For You came up next. After that it was Black and then a stellar Insignificance and finally a heart-racing Go closed out the set, complete with Mike playing behind his head and Ed balancing the mic stand on his hand!

It didn't take long before they returned, well at least Ed. He spoke to us for a while about how life was beautiful but also short and then went into a lovely version of Throw Your Arms Around Me. I was completely shocked to hear this one and it made up for not hearing Soon Forget (I still have 7 more shows for that one and Wishlist, so I'll get over it). Next it was Evolution time and then a very sketchy version of State of Love and Trust where Ed didn't quite have the lyrics down. After State, Ed made sure to point out the beautiful moon that was hanging low in the sky so that we could all admire it.

Next came great versions of Crazy Mary and Small Town. Then, it was time for the big crowd sing-a-long with Last Kiss. Rearviewmirror ended the first encore complete with windmills courtesy of Ed. I think it was at this time that Ed decided to take two different signs that fans up front were holding up whenever they could onto the stage.

The second encore began with an absolutely spectacular version of Indifference and then the show was ended with Rocking in the Free World, which we found out was one of the requests that Ed took up on stage. After they finished the song, Ed gave the sign back to the person and he also gave someone up front his tambourine. All and all, a fantastic, energetic show and a fabulously diverse set list.

When I got back to Chicago at about 4 this morning, my concert going experience was nicely capped off when Jeremy was played on the radio as I pulled up to my apartment. PJ was with me the whole way home!

Yesterday was my first night of my own mini tour. Next up for me is a four show shot in the arm with Cincinnati, Columbus, and two New York shows (for now. The third one may still be in my future too!) And then of course the Midwest in October! The fever is absolutely raging!
