DDAHL05: WOW!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! I have been reading about and listening to Pearl Jam performances at Bridge School since '96, and will never hear one the same again. It's an unbelievable atmosphere. A group of us drove down from Salem, Oregon on Thursday and spent a couple days doing the touristy San Francisco sites, and then prepared for Saturday. We go there early and our lawn seats were absolutely wonderful, but let's just get to the goods. The bands, loved them all. The highlights were Ben, REM, Dave, and Pearl Jam of course...Not to mention one ROCKING Billy IDOL :) I must say REM surprised me as to how much I liked them live...funny, sounded great, and mixed it up a little, but the surprise of the night was Dave. I hadn't seen him before but he was simply amazing. So Dave and REM finish their sets, and out comes PJ's set...guitars, standup bass, and the drum kit...you got to know what's coming will be magical. The lights go out, the crowd goes wild, and out comes PJ. A quick wave hello, pick up the guitar, and go. Leading off with one of the best slow songs ever, "Long Road." I knew right there it was going to be great. They then go into "Of The Girl"...I hadn't seen it but could only laugh when Ed stops after flubbing some lyrics and says..."It's been a year." Gotta love that. They didn't even take a breather. Everything was Euphoric. New song, "Last Soldier"...very nice little ditty, and "Drifting" which was played pretty fast had a great beat to it...you never have full respect of a song till you see it live. I would have to agree that "Gimme Some Truth" could be the highlight of the night though, flawlessly singing and playing it as a band...equipped with the "...son of Georgey Porgey...” line. Well, now that this has run on, I leave you with this. If you have even the slightest chance to go to a Bridge show ANY YEAR...go. When I saw the look on Maricor's face while Ed sang "Last Kiss" to her...oh man, tears were building up. The people, the students, the venue, the atmosphere, and the music...there's nothing better in terms of a concert. |
