Tina Patterson (cpatter@mac.com):
This is my first time submitting a fan view, although I've been to countless Pearl Jam events and have enjoyed re-living them through others' fan views.

Let me first start by saying that the Bridge School Benefit was definitely the best weekend I have spent in recent memory and the best two concerts I have ever attended. I scrambled to get tickets for me and 4 of my friends for both shows, primarily because Pearl Jam was playing, but what an incredible event to additionally see Neil Young, Tracey Chapman, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, REM and I can't forget the highly entertaining and hilarious Billy Idol. The music, people and weather were absolutely perfect! To think that I could enjoy this wonderful music while supporting a worthy causes... what a fantastic combination.

My friends and I were on the lawn. One friend was a Pearl Jam virgin who was converted to official fandom - based on the beautiful acoustic performance - wait 'til she experiences a full Pearl Jam show! Pearl Jam was wonderful the first night, but truly phenomenal the second night. The new songs were beautiful - especially "Last Soldier". The duet with Ben Harper on "Indifference" was --- hmmm--- too good to put into words. The performance of "Black" was the most beautiful and emotional version I have ever experienced.

I think that Pearl Jam's recent appearances, lead by Eddie, really defines why they are more than just great artists to their fans and why their fans are so dedicated. They are good people, they speak up for what they believe in, they are caring and unselfish, they get involved in causes where they can make an impact and they respect their fans. They are a positive influence on so many people. (including me!) The fact that Eddie personally referred to several of the Bridge School kids and has known them for years and made it a point to speak to the achievements of the kids, their parents and the school, just shows what kind of person he is. All the members of Pearl Jam conduct themselves like "real" people. People who you could have a drink (or 2 or 3) with or run into in a coffee shop and get lost in conversation.

Their performance was fantastic, and I feel very lucky to have been in attendance. I really think Ed had a sparkle in his eye on the second night, and it showed through in his singing, personality and the entire band's performance.

Thanks Pearl Jam
