Lisa Carey (vededderii@yahoo.com): My first show and I was lucky enough to make it front row centre..all my dreams coming true! This was the ultimate gig/gug for me being a kiwi finn fan and well..yeah a Pearl Jam freak. In a webchat Neil did a few months back I even asked him if he'd be doing another gig/gug with Iddie and he probably thought I was psychic... Anywho...skipping through all the non-Vidder stuff...let's just say those Finns rock the casbah... Neil had introduced all of the guests on stage and said "now...who else was there?" *insert crowd screaming* Eddie comes onstage and they launch into TAKE A WALK complete with MUCH eye rolling into the back of the head...awesome..awesome..awesome...I don't remember if it was here or when he came back on to play Better Man but Ed took the piss/puss outta us "you guys wanna hear my New Zealand accent? I only know 2 words..Iddie Vidder" *laughs hysterically* meeting up with numerous Aussie Pearl Jam fans that week I've had it up to HERE *points to neck* with the accent/accint mockery! NO MORE! ITS NOT FUNNY ANYMORE OK!?!? Anywho...Better Man was unbelievable..I was 2 metres or less away from him...there was no barrier between the stage and the crowd..the security guys with their torches of doom asked us to remain one metre from the stage at all times and surprisingly there was no pushing or anything. Go New Zealand! So here I am standing a tiny little distance from Mr. Vedder as he starts in on Save It For Later..*sighs happily* He then chucked his pick to us and it hit my finger and fell to the floor..I couldn't see it yet the girl who tackled us to get to it first evidently did...*grrrr* oh well.. I just about burst into tears when Tim sat at the piano and was joined by Ed for Stuff and Nonsense..totally spellbinding.. Then "the betcha are back" which no one seemed to understand (he does mumble) "the betcha are back." YAAAY! I was stoked to see Betchadupa make an appearance..but not just any appearance. The highlight of the show! I love this band...and this is just..incredible...I Got You. Liam was soloing like the little rock god that he is...and the most amazing Enz song I SEE RED!!! I thought nothing could beat the time I saw Tim play it ..or rather dance manically through it on feb 6 but this blew it out of the water. Ed seemed to feed off Tim's craziness. His weird dancing just spurred Ed's weird dancing and the crowd was going ballistic. World Where You Live..Eddie raising his arms in the air and I noticed a lot of people in the crowd doing his actions back to him. The intro to I Got Shit just excited the bejesus out of me..quite entertaining to sing along to it and know the lyrics better than Mr. Vedder himself. He had the verses all mixed up all over the place. Not For You complete with spitting had the crowd whipped into a frenzy...ha ha frenz..y..ha..hmm... And our last Ed-related moment being Paradise with the Lisa Germano/Ed duel ukeleles..so many ukeleles..and as Johnny Marr said "UKE ROCKS"...Ed looked so goddamn happy up there shaking his booty..nice nice nice. He jumped down behind the stage and ran arms flailing to the side of the stage where his beer and cigarettes were. After the show ended, the band gathered on stage, Ed between Tim Finn and, I can't remember who, but they were both taller than him and he pulled himself up on their shoulders and kicked his legs out like a kid on monkeybars (no mockery please). The end...best show of my life..as a kiwi, it's hard to believe that Neil could be elevated any further but his status as a God in this country has to be reconsidered. Find him something BIGGER BETTER AND SHINIER!!! |
