September 21, 2001, America: Tribute To Heroes Telethon; Los Angeles, California
ACA01CJM@sheffield.ac.uk: Like all the other millions of people, I watched this event from home. Living in Europe, it was on between 2 and 4am so the anticipation of Ed's performance was immense. I was almost asleep by quarter to 4 when Ed, Mike and Neil came on, but believe me, the sight of them instantly woke me up! Of all the songs that were played at that beautiful event, I thought that Long Road was the most appropriate. Ed sounded absolutely superb. His voice was perfect, intense and reflective. It was a truly emotional performance. Nothing captured the feeling of that event better than this performance. Ed had cropped his locks off, and looked freshly endorsed with a suntan. Well, he deserves time off after the 2000 tour. However, the time off had not affected the sheer musical ability of himself or Mike. Neil's part fitted in perfectly, and sounded similar to that of the B-Side version on Merkinball. Overall, superb performance. Definately something I'll never forget! |
