Chris Adams (cadams@infinityseattle.com):

Does it get better than Thursday night? Yes...an overwhelming YES!!! I didn't think I could be more excited than I was Thursday, nor did I think PJ could out-perform...I was wrong on both assumptions.

Pearl Jam opened the show with two older slow songs 'small town' and 'off he goes'. Both of which seemed to get the crowd excited with thoughts that more 'old school' songs might be played compared to the previous night. I've never heard small town as an opener, but it worked. Ed sounded great, as usual, and the band was tight! Off he goes is a beautiful song off the great, and often under-appreciated album, No Code. Thumbing my way followed and so goes the mellow beginning of the show. I almost wish they played TMW later in the set, but at least I heard it again. I get the chills when the first few chords come off the guitar, and he begins, "I have not been home, since you left long ago...I'm thumbing my way back to heaven..." Damn this song has great lyrics and hearing it live opens you up to Ed's energy. They then went into two off Binaural, Thin Air and Breakerfall (both are great live). Breakerfall got the crowd going as it was the first "rocker" of the evening. The energy continued as they ripped through Green Disease (which is quickly becoming a concert MUST!) and Corduroy. When the first few notes of Corduroy started, the crowd went NUTS! And I kind of lost it as well. I don't think I've ever rocked so hard! And the crowd continued to go nuts as Mike kicked some ass once again during Save You. That song is simply a GEM, in the studio AND in concert.

They continued rocking through Ghost and Cropduster. I Am Mine might not be a "rocker", but it FUCKING KICKS ASS LIVE! I love the fact that the most of the crowd knew the lyrics and were singing along with Ed. Boom rocked again on Love Boat Captain. "hold me and make it the truth, that when all is lost there will be you...!!!" That line gives me chills every time I hear it... they ripped through God's Dice and ½ Full, then gave memorable version of Daughter. I guess the version of Daughter itself didn't stand out, but the tag of war did. Ed obviously has some strong beliefs on the matter and he was definitely heard. The crowd picked up after a couple times through and sang along (ok, screamed along) with Ed. After the tag, and he picked up the microphone stand and SLAMMED it down. Just a great exclamation point on the tag! Again, you are impressed me. And again, I like that song more and more with each time I hear it. The crowd energy climaxed during Rearviewmirror, but that was probably expected. The long jam session at the end always gets me going! And after, the band disappeared for a short time...

They came back out on stage and Ed had a mask of none other than GW! Ha! I was really surprised they did Bu$hleaguer! But it was great! Ed seemed happy to share his thoughts on Bush with the crowd! It was clear why they went into the next song, Insignificance...."bombs dropping down, please forgive our hometown...in our IN-SIG-NIF-I-CANCE!!!" FUCK YEAH!!! They tossed out an old PJ classic with Better Man before they ended the second set with a ROCKIN' version of Do The Evolution. At least I THOUGHT that would end the 2nd set. I got sad cause Mike started in on Yellow Ledbetter...I thought it was over! As much as I love that song, I almost hate hearing it, cause 99.9% of the time, it means end of show. But nope! Ed came back out after a short time off stage and talked about this gift he received, a new ukulele! He gave us a great rendition of Soon Forget and after it, the band came back out and joined him for a song I've never heard before, Don't Believe In Christmas, by the Sonics. Then it was over...and I was in awe...Pearl Jam at the Showbox for the 2nd straight night...I am lucky...

Great music, great crowd, great night...two down, two to go! Rock'n'Fucking Roll!!!
