My friend and I got to the venue at about 5am that
morning, being general admission and all, I knew this
was my chance at a really great seat!! I was
determined to get front row..and we did, first ones
there and first ones in the door! You can count on PJ
fans to be respectful and make sure you don't lose your
place, thanks to all the awesome people I met!
I couldn't BELIEVE I was this close, it was too good to
be true!!! Ed came out and someone threw a joint to
him, he said how he'd get busted on the way back to
Seattle so he'd have to smoke it tonight. :) He started
the set with "Soon Forget," and then some guy yelled out
that it was his cousin's birthday, so Ed asked his name
and started singing "Happy Birthday," how cool for that
guy? I bet that was the best birthday present he got!
He played the same new songs from Wiltern on the
ukelele ("Can't Keep" was awesome..love the lyrics) and
"Thumbing My Way" was sooo amazing I really hope this
song makes it on the album, I fell in love with it
when he played it at the Wiltern show!

At the
beginning of I Am Mine Eddie seemed to have forgotten
the lyrics, my friend and I yelled out simultaneously
"The selfish! " and he nodded and started the song,
it was very cool we got a little acknowledgment! He
played 2 new songs as well, both played on the ukelele
I swear this is Ed's new favourite instrument!
Before Parting ways he said how he'd met someone
surfing who also played a 4 stringed instrument, and
that he wasn't sure how old he was but they'd been
practicing 'after school.' Ed brought him out and they
played an AMAZING rockin version of "Parting Ways,"
which brought the crowd to their feet, and ended it
complete with both doing Pete Townshend jumps!! He
smashed the ukelele at the end of the set and handed
it to (A very well deserving) person in the front row.
After the show we headed over to the other venue and
waited around for Mike Watt...during the set we could
see Ed rockin' out side stage, it was really cool to
see him as a fan! He came out and played a high
energy "No Fun," which proved it was worth staying
late even though we were deliriously tired!! My last
night in California went out with a bang...thanks for
the memories Ed!
