Louise Syme (louisesyme@iprimus.com.au):

I was so eager to get there early just in case Eddie came out early. We were sitting there for a while and just as I said that it didn't look like Ed was

Going to come out, he did. He only sang Dead Man and Thumbing My Way, but hey it was something and man it was good. It is really nice of him to do it.. as a favour for those who came early, and to warm the audience up for Betchadupa too I guess. Betchadupa came on and performed really well. But I think the audience (who were much wilder and into it more than on Tuesday) got a bit impatient with them, then Eddie who was hiding with Jeff on the side of the stage, came out and sang I See Red with Betchadupa. That was such a bonus and it looked like they were having fun too. In the break of the song where the piano is usually played, Ed improvised and whistled the whole thing which was really funny, even he started laughing.

Pearl Jam opened with Sometimes, which really didn't surprise me considering they didn't play any songs from No Code on Tuesday night. But they certainly made up for that adding Habit and Off He Goes to the list. Ed was full of energy tonight, jumping up and down at every chance, the audience was going wild. They really seemed to be in a good mood and ready to jam because they certainly did. Also, which pleased the audience, they played more traditional songs such as Jeremy, Don't Go, Even Flow and Daughter. There were a few complaints from fans who were at Tuesdays show only to hear songs like these, so hopefully they can stop complaining now...they got what they wanted.

Overall, it was a fabulous concert, I might go as far as saying better than Tuesday, however my seats were really crap compared to Tuesday so it kinda evened out. Once again... Tenclub people...the only way to see a Pearl Jam concert! But apart from that, I think I let go and enjoyed it more and PJ were much more relaxed too.

Funny moments:
*Ed smoking on stage all night mainly because he was told not to
*After jumping around so much Ed lost his balance and actually fell over but quickly got back up and continued to jump up and down
*Ed brought out a mask of Bill Gates and put it on Jeff's mike stand. Then after looking at it he said it wasn't right and started to fix it up. When he stood back for a second look he said "There. Much better. Bill Gates isn't that tall!"
*Ed came out by himself and started to play Soon Forget. He tried twice unsuccessfully before he finally played it because he forgot how it went

And as if that wasn't enough, I got to shake hands with Ed at the end. We went to the stage door where the band come out and waited and waited and waited and watched everyone except any Pearl Jam member come out, until finally at about 2am Ed came out. He didn't sign any autographs but he did spend a reasonable amount of time shaking people's hands and talking to them one on one. I couldn't believe it. I don't really care about the autograph, but just being there and being able to thank Eddie for everything was better than anything. It was great to see the dedication of both the band and the fans. There were people there who had come at 3pm just to see Pearl Jam but didn't actually have tickets to the concert. Yet they waited until 2am because they knew they would see one or all of them, and they did...

Thank you guys so much, see you tonight for the last Sydney show.
