Dan (dan_alive@optusnet.com.au):

Let me just say this was an amazing show. It that bit more intense than the previous show in Adelaide. So forgive me if I don't give justice to it with words... get the feeling.

I rocked up at around 6pm, parked my car in East Melbourne and walked for 5 mins to Rod Laver Arena with butterflies crapping in my stomach... this was going to be special, I could feel it. As I walked the long walkway to the front of the venue people were lounging around and there was a fucken long line waiting to collect their tickets... I was (and still am!) buzzing at what seats I'd get. I wasn't hoping for much cos I've only been a member for 2-3 years. Anyway we all waited in line for about an hour... I met Grungie Dave (hey dude!) who I'd met at a Melbourne Convergence a while back, he got some damn good seats so my hopes were just going up up up.... up.

And then I got my tickets... I had to look twice...

Door 17, Floor, ROW C...... ROW FUCKEN C and seat 41!!!! woooohoooo!!

I went up to buy some merchandise... t-shirt, stickers for my sis and I... then ran back to the car to put em in there for safe-keeping.

Johnny Marr and The Healers were damn good, I am going to buy their latest album very soon... that classic rock mixed with just awesome feeling. Great band! I was waiting for moemoe but she was running late.. then I found out her car fucken overheated so it wasn't the ideal start to the night. But I tell you what it made up for it later!

After some hassles with the gate entry people, we got in and took our seats 3rd row in front of Master Mike... this was going to be heaven, we could feel it. By the way, hello to the guys I met in our row... Matt (?) and Rachel and another dude who was pretty psyched (didn't get his name)... ahh jammers are cool :)

The crowd rose as they entered the stage... we seriously went off and then were stunned as Better Man opened the set!! Better Man???? Man, from that point on I was buzzing for the whole show... everyone just moving with the music and I'm glad we all seemed to be singing fucken load... thanks Ten Clubbers!! I must say they just took the whole place by the balls and were intense for the entire set... Go and Save you were amazing, Ed just shredding some awesome howls and Mike absolutely knocking the living daylights out of us as we greased him off with wild stares... you rock, Mike! He threw out heaps of picks throughout the night too... Jeff was grooving as did Stone and Ed was just on fire, manic energy...haven't seen him like that before! Then I pissed my pants... TREMOR CHRIST! I felt bloody lucky to hear that live, and they played it perfectly in my opinion.. Ed nailed the lyrics and we were just so fired up there in the front. Tremor Christ... just listen to the bootleg guys, you have to get this show :)

Given To Fly was amazing once again as was Get Right... really glad I heard that last night! Mike and Matt went hell-for-leather on Even Flow and I was downright as grateful as anything watching Mike play in front of my very eyes... I Am Mine, Love Boat Captain, Wishlist, Jeremy, You Are, Whipping, Insignificance, Rearviewmirror. Ed thanked Boom on the keyboards and he raised his arms with a smile on his face. Awesome. From I Am Mine into LBC was just great... Ed said something like "lost nine friends [something] knew.. miss them more each day" or something to that effect... really touching :) The mirrorball then came down for WIshlist and I had a ball with this song (pardon the pun)... singing really loud throughout it.. Jeremy was next and I was so glad to hear it... Jeff was on fire throughout and Mike was dashing Stone grooving Matt pounding Ed intense as ever. What can I say? It's Pearl Jam. You Are was as good as in Adelaide and this song is just even better than the album live... look forward to it Japanese and American jammers :) THEN WHIPPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!! I will ask you to listen to the bootleg once more... amazing. Insignificance is awesome live, it's underrated I think... the stops in it are perfect and intense, it shows you how tight they are as a band... then Rearviewmirror still going crazy after 10 years. Oooof. Encore break.

Off He Goes was beautiful, did Ed remember it as Anthony Hurley's fav song (jammer from Melbourne who passed away at Roskilde)? :) The band did it justice and he may have been happy wherever he was listening to it. Before Last Kiss Ed pointed out some fans in the upper level who had a "Drop The Leash" sign... he then said "I cant remember the chords, can't remember the lyrics" haha.. "all I can remember is the feeling"... he tried to play the intro and said "I can remember the intro"... but then stopped.. fucken cool woohoo hehe.. that was realllly sweet. "The next song only has four chords so we can play it." Last Kiss. Black was stunning again, the crowd was singing this so loud I don't know how Ed could keep going with it :) But they never fail to do this song justice. Do you know what we heard next? (of course ya do it's at the top of the page) LEATHERMAN. This topped off the night for me... a rarity that I love as a b-side... "This is a b-side... some of you might know it, some may not, some of you will know it, some not" (said very quickly in fun way hehe.. once again refer to bootleg).. Pearl Jam, you rock :)

Do The Evolution closed off the first encore as this dude managed to get past security and onto the stage with Ed... Pete, the big security dude, was ready to pounce.. felt sorry for the dude having so much responsibility... but anyway, Ed started singing with this fan on-stage as the crowd went nuts! Then Ed got on this guys back for a piggyback ride for the entire song... this dude also wore a John Howard mask I think (our Primed Minister).. pretty funny stuff, really good time had by the whole band on stage laughing and just having a ball like all of us fans! When the song finished Ed muttered "have a good time in jail" as the dude was escorted off the stage lol.

Before I said the night was topped off with Leatherman. Uh uh. The house lights came on and we heard the intro to Baba O'Riley!! BABA! I've been wanting to hear this close a show forever... and here we were, fucken intense and great and memorable Pearl Jam... everyone in the crowd was rocken, and Mike was again so fired up and feeding off the crowd.

The show finished off and we were just soaking it up... we knew we'd witnessed another classic PJ show.. then off we went to the barrier for the setlist except someone wouldn't hand out the setlists to anyone... she started folding it! the nerve!

I will never forget last night... being so close for a great show, you really appreciate the band that much more as well as the awesome Ten Club. Thanks heaps to everyone in Melbourne for making it an awesome show.

See you tonight if you're there!
