February 23, 2003 - Burswood Dome, Perth, Australia
Danno (danielbeard@iprimus.com.au): Wow. What else could I say but......wow.
No words could possibly explain how much of a great day February the 23rd was. After meeting up with a group of other great jammers, who I ended up sharing the whole days experience with, we scored the rim of the dome trying to find out were the "Place to be" was to get a glimpse at the arriving band. Eventually we were tipped off that it was around the back of the dome, so, with in no time, we were set up outside with cameras, and pens in hand. And a security guard who was obsessed about his precious white line. So we waited and waited, and kept ourselves amused for 1 ½ when out of nowhere a white Tarago slowly approached. As it got closer we all slowly moved forward too see who was in the car and to our excitement out stepped Mr. McCready, Stone & Jeff. I was first up too Mike, keeping back and trying to crowd him (although its easy too do), I shakingly said "G'Day" and held out my hand and shook his hand. On the spot I had to come up with something to say that didn't sound stupid or too weird "I love your work man, thanks a lot" was all that came out, he said "Hey thanks" in a really surprised voice, then signed my RA C.D before moving on to the rest of the group. He's a lot shorter than I expected. Next up was Stone. I didn't get to talk to Stone unfortunately but he signed my CD before nicking off inside and I only got a glimpse of Jeff before he legged it as well. I was happy to see how eager they were to sign stuff and say "Hi" to there fans, and not just leave and be ignorant....man these guys rock! We all went absolutely crazy as soon as they went inside; and didn't calm down for hours. Unfortunately while all this was happening, Eddie and Matt nicked around a side door =( So the concert starts..... The entire show went off, my 10C seats were right down the end past mike side. I'll go through by the songs that I can remember (I mean I can remember them all but just the stuff that happened) Long Road:: As soon as the first bars were played I went off! It all came rushing towards we that I was there. With PJ right in front of me. The band I have idolised for all these years. My life. The roar of the crowd was enormous as they all took the stage. Save You:: Now I was excited. I could get the smile off my face if I tried. The transition from Long Road into Save You was amazing. Halfway through I looked up at Mike and pointed at him and gave him the thumbs up as he looked at me, he waved, pointed to himself and shook his head then pointed to me and nodded. I was so stoked. This happened so many time through out the show, I felt like I had some form of connection with him. =) Corduroy:: Another crowd pleaser with a massive response as Ed started playing. Given To Fly:: One of the songs I was listening out for, it echoed through the dome and was just so uplifting, nothing else you could do but jump =) Even Flow:: Very happy to hear this =) Although I've heard the song too many times to count this would have to the most memorable, for the fact that I was there seeing them perform it. wow. Cropduster:: Another song I was waiting to hear. Eddie pulled this off really well, his voice was in amazing shape tonight! Jeremy:: Enough said really....Being this was the first PJ song I had ever heard way back in 1995 I went off when Jeff started playing his bass. This would have to have been the loudest I was singing all night. Small Town:: A great sing along for the whole crowd, this will sound great on the bootleg I Am Mine & LBC:: Good to see these both performed back to back. Both sounding amazing and both pulled off very well. Habit:: This got the Dome jumping. Sounding great with both Mike and Stone jamming away together. Once again Ed's voice fitted the song perfectly. Another Mike highlight: pretending to inject something into his arm before closing his eyes, tipping his head to one side and acting dead. =) You Are:: Brilliant, this song is amazing on the CD and amazing in concert. The riff of both guitars entwined make a spine chilling tune. Wishlist:: Down came the mirror ball. And this must be the first time I have ever heard Wishlist with out Ed buggerin up the lines or getting them mixed up. heheh =) good job. Very well played Half Full:: Mike absolutely ripped this song with his guitar. Very pleased to hear it and see it played live. Don't Go:: Wow this went off!! Everything about it. The lights that nearly gave me a seizure (only jokin), the way Eddie was screaming and jumping around and most of all the way Mike played his solo with his guitar behind his head...if only I was aloud my camera in.
-encore 1- Betterman & Daughter:: Also great to hear these two back to back, both played brilliantly (of course) and another crowd pleaser. The tag for daughter was Ed leading the crowd in singing "hey, hey" then he had a laugh to himself to the side of the mic and returned to start the crowd singing "Ha, Ha, Ha!" =) Crazy Mary:: This was great I love this song. Once again Eddie came down from the stage and got the bottle of wine going. I got a mouthful!! Still very very happy =) Throw Your Arms Around Me:: This duet with Mike Seymour and Eddie was absolutely brilliant. Their voices suited each others perfectly. And to think that they played and meet for the first time in Perth. What good luck =)
-encore 2- Fortunate Son:: Although I have to admit I didn't know the words to this, but it sounded familiar. It was great; I'll have to take time to listen to it on the bootleg. I also got Mikes pick at the end of the song, sorry to the guy next to me, it landed on the railing about 4 people down from me so I practically lent over the fence and nearly fell over to get it....it was worth it though =) So there you go! its taken me a while to type this but I'm happy cause it's all still fresh in my mind and if I forget I can always come back here to remind myself =). I wanna say congratulations to Megan for catching Eddie's eye and getting his pick and also the setlist. You really did look lost for words, and about to faint. =) good job And thanx to everyone who kept me company on the day, it was great to meet you all and share the experience with you. =) And most of all thank you very, VERY much PEARL JAM for an amazing show I will never forget. Hope to see you on our shores again sometime soon =)
Thanx a lot |
