February 23, 2003 - Burswood Dome, Perth, Australia
Jason Bush: Just a short review. I have been reading the reviews from the eastern states and none of them really sum up what a Pearl Jam concert is like, and I don't think I can do it any better so I won't try. People who have been to a PJ concert know what's it's like when I say the concert was absolutely amazing! Every aspect of the show was brilliant. My personal highlight was Throw Your Arms Around Me with Mark Seymour. That is a once in a lifetime thing and the betterman/small town/daughter sing-alongs were something I will never forget. I can't see how any other band can have the same energy and emotion Pearl Jam create. Eddie Vedder said about blowing the roof of the Dome, by the end of the night I think they did.
A night of pure brilliance. Jill Masters: Well, it's not often that you get a full two and a half hours of absolute craftsmanship and entertainment but that's what you would've seen last night at the Burswood Dome........from the beginning with Long Road to the end it was totally mesmerizing! Mike as usual was jumping around and 'playing up' to the audience and we even got to see some instrument abuse with Eddie giving it to a couple of tambourines. Also great to see a huge range of lead and bass guitars............better than walking thru a music store! Another fantastic experience made even better by being in the middle of the seventh row of lounge.......sometimes it's all about the location and what you can actually see. JU (ju@iinet.net.au): Absolutely amazing! Coming to the dome tonight we were a little apprehensive about the acoustics having seen some concerts there before but tonites sound from where we were 12 rows from the front of the stage was perfect. The clarity of Eddies voice was spine tingling, he just performs with so much feeling and emotion. It was the most animated we have seen Mike, he looks like he is really loving it at the moment, Stone was great, very in control and perfect playing as usual. Jeff was in fine form. Great new editions to the band were a keyboard player from Hawaii (Didn't catch his name) who was very cool and gave the band's sound a new dimension. Matt playing drums was sensational. His playing reminds us little bit of Dave A in terms of his technique and he definitely has tightened the rhythm section from when we saw them last in 1998. Highlights were Evenflow, Elderly Woman behind a counter, Do the Evoloution, Wishlist (Great lighting with the mirrorball starting to turn in the bridge section of the song), I am Mine, Love Boat Captain, Alive and an unbelievable version of Fortunate Son.
