I want to start off by giving Ten Club the props it deserves. I had third row Mike side seats. I was so happy words cannot explain. IN TEN CLUB WE TRUST! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE INVOLVED. Second for all of those seeing the band this tour the sound is tight, fun-loving, and what else can you say but they are at the top of their game. Third, MIKE is a live guitar god. He is so amazing with his effortless solos, energy, and passion for the music.

Now to the show as a whole. I am from OK and was so pumped that they were finally playing here. I have traveled to many shows but somehow its never the same as when it's in your town. Sleater-Kinney rocked they are such a great live band. I had heard stuff by them before but they have just gained a new fan. At the right of the stage you could see Eddie rocking out with them jumping and all. It's great to see your favorite band in such an honest state.

But the moment didn't come soon enough though. They turned the house lights off and the audience was at their feet and stayed that way for the whole show. The band came out and thoughtfully waved at the crowd and took their assumed positions. From the get-go Mike was on fire. The opened with LONG ROAD which for me was perfect. "How I've waited for so long, how I've wished for you today." Then they just continued to rock out, jumping right into some new favs and classic rock songs. Mike was into the crowd, tipping his guitar to us, pointing at the tons of rocking out fans, and showering us with picks every chance he got.

Time seemed to stand still listening to Eddie speak on topics that affect all of our lives. I believe that the band respects everyone's opinion, and they are just trying to give people food for thought...just so society will get involved. I think it's great. The crowd was responsive, which is amazing for Oklahoma. No one left the show early, you couldn't get enough.

The return of DEEP was nothing short of amazing...sounded as if it never left, Eddie continued to feel every word of every song he sang. I think that is what is so great with this band. The believe and feel all of their songs which flows into the audience. They leave you wanting more.

The encores were great with improvs and lots of lengthy jamming. This is amazing to witness. Its kind of personalizing each show for the fans attending.

The show left you wanting more and more. A great closer with YL and the crowd chanting along. The evening was full of wonderful events: Ok improv, Happy birthdays, Drifting, DEEP, Mike blowing his amp cause he rocks that hard, Eddie's speech on the usage of the word "FUCK," supporting the troops, and good old kick ass rock music. Enough rambling I just want to say THANKS-EDDIE, MIKE, STONE, JEFF, MATT, AND BOOOOM! YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST LIVE ACT AND THAT WAS THE BEST SHOW I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!!!!!!!

Truly amazing. Let me restate that - truly "fucking" amazing. I've seen them 4 times before and this time absolutely blew the others out of the water. First of all, The Energy was the best I've ever seen. With Ed going on about the word "fuck" and Mike blowing up amps, and stone rolling around on the ground during RVM, it was the best I've ever seen. The touring band DVD also doesn't touch this concert. Mike's solo on Even Flow went on about twice as long as the dvd and every other time I've seen them. I've never heard Vedder sound as good as he did on DEEP. Drifting was also very unexpected. Next, the crowd interaction was the best of any concert that I've attended. Every song Vedder ripped out was accompanied by a very energetic crowd. I think part of PJ's energy was played off of a very appreciative crowd. Lastly, the quality was as pure as it gets. 1/2 full sounded much better live and seemed to have a slight psychedelic twist to it. The stage set up also kicked mucho ass. The album cover of riot act gives the album a dark feel, but seeing them perform the songs live gives me a new perspective. Thank you Pearl Jam and everyone else who was a part of a very "fucking" special night.

Sorry for the late posting but I needed a few days to recuperate and come to the realization that I am not as young as I used to be. Furthermore, it has taken me a few days to process all the people, the waiting in lines, the driving, the horrible beds of cheap motels, and of course the music during our pursuit of Pearl Jam around Oklahoma and Texas. While not nearly as adventurous as some of the road warriors I met along the way, the trip provided me with a lifetime of memories and some cool stories to share here and for my next journey.

We started out for OKC on Thursday and hit the 10c line around noon where a light drizzle and some cool air welcomed us during our wait. We proceeded to amuse ourselves with a couple of other fellow jammers who managed to get their Frisbee caught on an overhang at the Ford Center and then ultimately persuaded the local power company to retrieve the Frisbee for them via their cherry-picker. Upon the freeing of the Frisbee, they decided it would be a good idea to toss the disc into oncoming traffic, which persuaded them to put the Frisbee away for good. Good thinking boys.

After what seemed an eternity, the line started to move and we got our tickets--3rd row--Mike's side. Having never been closer than a Nautical Mile away from the band, it was definitely a step up. Thanks 10c! So, with a few hours to kill, we hit the streets of OKC looking for some grub and then headed over to the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building Memorial. Having attending college in Oklahoma during the attack, it was my first time back to the building since visiting the gutted out remnants in 1995. It was truly a somber moment during an otherwise exciting day and really gave me some perspective into the current war: while we were here paying our respects to 168 people who were killed so selfishly and so unnecessarily, half way around the world, our own country was actively paving the way for new memorials in Iraq. There was something so unsettling about the experience but we pressed on and headed back to the Ford Center.

While on our way back, we passed Mike riding a bike and greeted him and tried not to scare him into oncoming traffic. He responded with a "Hey fellas" and continued on his way. Feeling pretty excited, we made it back to the venue and met up with a friend of mine who I had not seen in 4 years (good to see you again Brad, let's do it again some time soon.) We made our way into the building and were standing around chatting when Joel (friend along for the journey) started to yell at me, walking closer to hear him, he finally pointed out what was causing all the ruckus-Corin and Carrie from Sleater-Kinney milling about in the concourse! We cautiously approached them and struck up a conversation, I think I started off with "I heard ya'll were booed the other night in Denver." Finding them eager to continue the dialogue, we continued to talk for a few minutes about the show and I asked if they could play O2, they agreed (opener!) and then a thought came to me-have them call Troy! Troy is a buddy who lives in Florida who got me turned onto SK and what better way to show my appreciation then giving him the opportunity to talk to them?? So, I politely asked Carrie if she would talk to my friend and she agreed. So I started to dial and got no answer on the cell, then I tried home-damn-answering machine, Carrie, being the trooper she is, left a pretty long and quirky message for Troy about how she was sorry he wouldn't get a chance to hear them for the Atlanta show and how her and I were going to dinner after the show (never happened and if anybody sees her, tell her to contact me!) and then finished up by saying she hoped he takes care of his problem. While Troy and I found this be amusing, apparently Troy's better half, Gretchen, was a little worried something might be wrong with him and had to be convinced everything was ok. I thanked Carrie for the gesture and we let them go to get ready for the show. I think Corin got the whole thing on video, so Corin, if you are reading this, please send along a copy. Furthermore, Troy is trying to determine how to convert answering machines messages into MP3 to preserve the message for future generations. This experience is definitely near the top of the internal "DON'T FORGET THIS HAPPENED" list.

So, we made our way to the seats and found ourselves sitting next to Jeremy and his sister. Jeremy is a great guy from Denver who happened to be catching his 49th Pearl Jam show. He instantly became my hero. We swapped stories (Caroline's Crashing) about this and that until SK came on stage and I instantly became lost in their music. They were amazing, great stage presence, high energy, Corin could wail, Carrie moving about, and Janet rippin' up the skins. I was hooked. Definitely the best band I have seen open for Pearl Jam and of the best live bands I have ever seen. They flew through the 45 minute set and their version of Fortunate Son was excellent. I could not have been happier. Thanks ladies for a magnificent set.

So, we anxiously waited for PJ and when they hit the stage, I quickly thanked the 10c Gods for the 3rd row seats. I think other people have done good jobs describing PJ's set; so I will just say it was phenomenal and I was very thankful to hear all the songs but especially Untitled-MFC; Corduroy; Off He Goes; RVM; Alive; and especially Deep followed by Blood. Wow. I think Joel summed it up best when he said "Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Unbelievable." (See Fanview 1)

I must say the crowd was phenomenal. I had never experienced a crowd with such enthusiasm in a large type venue before. It could have helped that I was smack dab in the middle of a couple of hundred of fan club members or the fact PJ had not played OKC in about 11 years. Whatever the reason, it was great when the band realized that the crowd was bringing their 'A' game so they better bring theirs as well.

The next couple of hours were pretty hazy. I think we left the building and I vaguely remember a Taco Cabana stop in there. Some intermittent sleep broken by Joel's incessant chatting "They played Deep!" carried us back to Dallas where we got some rest before heading out to San Antonio for part 2*
