Like a lot of the people I showed up early and stand around in the cold because the gates opened an hour later than everyone said they would. But after a couple of drinks and a couple of other things I was over that, and for me it was the only disappointment of the night. Major props to Sleater-Kinney for kick starting the night and making me bounce around and get warm. I was hoping Sparta would open down here but I'll looking for SK CD's my next visit to the record store.

But on to the big show. I knew from the Memphis 2000 show I went to as well as all the 2000 boots PJ's sets usually start with a slow song then pick up and sort ebb and flow. So when GO started the show my jaw hit the ground (I knew they had opened with it a few times but it caught me off guard) and it pretty much stayed there the rest of the night. They followed with kick-ass performance of SAVE YOU and then proceeded to play six straight songs of the 1st three albums: STBC, EVENFLOW, DAUGHTER! (has it ever been the 5th song?) BETTERMAN, NOT FOR YOU, and SMALL TOWN. I would've never thought they'd play that many hits one after the other. LOVE BOAT CAPTAIN followed, I was really looking forward to hearing this one and it exceeded my expectations. Lots of respect to Boom as well, he really gives the band a new dimension on the songs he plays on. CORDUROY got a huge response of course and YOU ARE was way better live than the studio version. THUMBING MY WAY was great and drove home the fact that Ed's one the best singer/songwriter/lyricists around. GIVEN TO FLY and WISHLIST both got big applause (pretty much everyone likes the Yield stuff) then we treated to ANIMAL which they haven't much yet this tour. All Mike's leads were awesome but this one really did it for me.DTE (which always rocks) closed the set. Stone doesn't play many solos so it was great to see him go off in this one.

The guys didn't take long to come back and play LAST KISS (nice, tight performance), BLACK, and ALIVE. Those two were both stellar and back to back, what more can you ask for? How about SOLDIER OF LOVE (after a false start), LEAVING HERE 1st time this tour, and YELLOW LEDBETTER! I don't think I'll ever get tired of that song, especially after hearing it in person. The entire band seemed to have fun tonight despite the cold weather. Every song was terrific. So thanks a lot Pearl Jam for the great show. My friends and I are looking forward to Nashville.

This was one of the smaller fan club shows but I was still surprised by how large the fan club section was. It was great to talk to people who know their stuff about the band. Sleater-Kinney impressed but they weren't the band I was there to see. The guys opened with searing Go, maybe starting off with a fast song was good idea on a cold night. The setlist was heavy on radio songs with only four from Riot Act. This was a little disappointing to the faithful but the casual fans were in for a treat and it would have made a great first show for someone. Ed was hoarse and pulled the Kleenex box throughout. Very little stage chatter and no political speeches this night. A few minor flubs but except for a skipped verse in Wishlist he had a good night lyrically. The encores were noticeably short, probably due to the cold. Soldier of Love had to be restarted since at least one guitarist was playing Last Kiss. After a well received Sweet Home Alabama riff was tagged on to Ledbetter the band huddled around for one more only to play a couple of notes before running off stage smiling. Despite being 38 degrees at show's end with a little drizzly mist it was still a fun night. Can't wait for Atlanta.

The tempo for the show was set from the beginning with a blistering GO. It was a brisk night (especially in Alabama), I think the reason the band started so aggressively was to keep themselves and the crowd from freezing!!! Ed, who was a little under the weather, made some funny comments about how to remember this experience while listening to the bootleg. They involved ice, freezers, and fans. If I had to pick some highlights they would be hearing Stone play his Acoustic and Steel guitars (first time for me during a regular tour), Ed playing pass the Kleenex (or facial tissue if you prefer) during a great Thumbing My Way and just jamming to show that featured so many classic raw PJ tunes like Spin the Black Circle, Not For You, Go, Animal, Alive, Evenflow, etc. Baring a hand full Riot Act/Binaural songs this show could have been from the Vitalogy tour......OH the memories! At the end of Yellow Leadbetter Mike teases with the intro to Sweet Home Alabama, Ed rushes over to him to say "No." Then the band whispers to one another with slight smirks, they face the crowd, rip a loud cord, laugh and run off the stage.......See Ya Next Time!!!!

A heart felt thanks goes out to the 10C! Once again great tickets. You are a large part of what makes these shows a great experience.....besides the band and all:)!!
