Robert:

I got to the ten club ticket booth about 4:30 and the line was pretty long. The temperature had dropped about 20 degrees during our drive from New Orleans and the show the night before. People are dressed accordingly except for me because I didn't pack for the 40 degree weather. The tickets didn't disappoint as usual. We had second row right in front of Mike which I contend is the best band member to be in front of. He continually plays to the audience. The back third of the venue is completely empty, possibly due to the cold temps.

The band went on about the usual 8:45 time. They came on stage appropriately dressed with Mike, Stone, and Jeff in sock hats and Ed in the usual abundance of layers (regardless of the temp). The show starts fast and strong, probably to warm up for the weather. At one point, Ed states that this is the second coldest show they had played. Ed is noticeably sick, constantly blowing his nose. At one point he attempts to pass a Kleenex from the stage to the back of the amphitheatre. At the same time, my wife is begging for Mike's sock hat. I tell Mike that she needs one to match the one that I had purchased at the show (black with yellow flames). Mike states that he would be cold if he gives it to her, but then he gives in and tosses it right to her....what a guy! Evolution closes the first set with great energy, but Ed flubs the lyrics horribly just as the night before in NOLA.

First encore is nice, but short. The second encore starts with a guitar blooper and forces a second attempt of the beginning (Soldier of Love). Mike ends the second with a short Yellow Ledbetter solo. At the end of this, he hits the first few chords of Sweet Home Alabama and the crowd reacts. After this, we are all sucked in as the band sets up to play what appears to be one final song. They count off, hit one final chord, drop their instruments, and run off the stage laughing. A strange ending to a very short cold show. Noticeably absent are any No Code or Binaural.

Cold as hell. I guess that may have accounted for the short (by PJ standards, that is) set. But there were very few complaints from the fanclub seats. Ed delivered a little monologue on how to enjoy the bootleg of this show..."Open the refrigerator, put your feet in a bucket of ice water and your head in the freezer and pop on the headphones." Later, after blowing his nose on several tissues, Ed got the crowd to prove they could pass one of his tissues (a clean one) from the front row all the way to the back. This happened during Thumbing My Way, and at the end of the song the person on the last row up in the stands was waving the tissue. Pretty cool.

This was my first show of the tour so I wasn't disappointed by the prevalence of the more traditional songs in the setlist. I've got several more opportunities to hear the new stuff and a rarity or 2. The highlight of the set for me was You Are, w/ Ed dancing in the laser light effects. A rocking version of Leaving Here was also delivered. Mike's solos soared, Matt's drumming was tight, Jeff was rocking the bass, and Stone was cool as usual. They seemed to be having fun in spite of the dropping temps.

The surprise of the evening was in the 2nd encore. During Mike's Yellow Ledbetter solo the other guys starting talking and laughing, passing a joke along. We were wondering what was up. As Yellow Ledbetter ended, the band grabbed their instruments and played the first few notes of an unknown song, the crowd roared, and then they threw down their instruments and ran off the stage laughing. My friend and I thought it was hilarious, but others in the crowd seemed a little pissed.

First of all, let me just say thank you so very much for my absolutely wonderful tickets from the fan club again. I had 4th row dead center. As always, the fan club continues to be the best there is. Despite the unusually cold weather for Birmingham this time of year, the concert was unbelievably awesome!

This was my 4th Pearl Jam concert, and it gets better every time. From beginning to end, this was an amazing show! Sleater-Kinney was a rockin' opening band. I hadn't heard them before, so I didn't know what to expect. But their set was terrific.

Pearl Jam came on a little before 9:00, and it rocked from the start! Some of the first set included Go as a surprising opener, Save You, Spin the Black Circle, and Evenflow. It was a great mixture of some old and new stuff to start the evening. Basically, this show could be titled "Singles Night" because it consisted of practically all released singles.

Encore songs included Last Kiss, Black, Alive, Soldier of Love, Leaving Here, and Yellow Ledbetter. I was hoping for a couple obscure songs that they don't do live all that often. But Leaving Here was really the only one. Overall though, this show was still absolutely incredible!

Got to meet several guys that are traveling to every show on the tour. I really envy them. Wish I had the time and money to do the same. Anyway, thanks again to Kerensa and Ten Club. I really appreciate all your efforts! Thanks to Pearl Jam for the greatest concert ever, and I can't wait to see you again in Atlanta on the 19th!
