April 13, 2003 - St. Pete Times Forum; Tampa, Florida
Gus Fernandez: A Perfect 10 Appropriately enough, my tenth Pearl Jam show had to be one of most perfectly unexpected surprises. After a four hour drive coming up from Miami, I arrived at around 3:40pm to the St. Pete Times Forum to find an enormous line at the Ten Club window. There had to be at least 100 or more people in front of me. So I get to the back of the line but still expect great seats like always. What I didn't know was that I was going to get my first pair of front row tickets ever from the Ten Club (THANK YOU!). Needless to say, I was extremely happy and excited. So I went up to my seats about half an hour after doors opened. Ed came out and played You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, messed up some of the words, but everyone laughed it off. Then Sleater-Kinney rocked right after him. Then PJ. Amazing as always. It's going to be a great bootleg. Standouts: Daughter/(Peace Cheer) Ed spelled out P.E.A.C.E. After each letter, he prompted us to repeat. Also, RITFW w/Sleater-Kinney and reworked I Am a Patriot... Mike's solos! Thank you, once again, to everyone at the Ten Club and the band, of course, for making it a memorable weekend. Will never forget 2003.
Gus Fernandez Tim Lloyd (MLloyd8098): Their I was in a slew of people waiting for the 10c line to start. Seeing people from west palm an other shows make this club the best. Sat and talked to everyone chatting about the setlist from Orlando (thanks clearwater) and their take on what we can look forward to tonight. Group of brothers outside playing Guitars and making music for us all to listen to pass the time till the office opens. Finally the doors open and we all file in 5 or so at a time. I was 7th and you guys did me right. Being able to take my wife for the first time and with great seats made the wait worth it. 3rd row stones side. Ran a little late and wandered in late. My bud Randy tells me "you just missed the solo tune bye Ed." It was cool, I saw it in West Palm. Sleater-Kinney was tops. They got us all ready for this show. Great guitars and hard hitting drummer. Doing cover of C.C.R.'s FORTUNE SON put me in the mood. These ladies rock. E.W.B.T.C.I.A.S.T. as an opener? We all screamed HELLO and everyone was ready to go. It seemed like they played forever. No breaks for like 17 songs. Dissident, Love Boat Captain, Save You, Hail Hail, man they just kept going. Even Flow, Black, and Alive were crowd pleasers and the new trick with the mirror on Ed's head is a great effect with the stage light. Wishlist and the mirror ball came down and the crowd went nuts. Ed and Matt came back out and jammed a slow I Am A Patriot. I had the flag and me and friends waved it with pride. The whole band made you feel great to be an American. Last Kiss began and my wife and I had a moment to be together during a song and just listen. Do the evolution was great as always and Daughter was sweet. Yellow Ledbetter and Rocking in a Free World with the girls from Sleater-Kinney was the closer and I can't help but look behind me and see all those people and saying how awesome music is and how it brings us all together.
Thanks gang for a great show. |
