The whole incident was a spur of the moment thing. At the start of the day we lined up for tickets at about 12:30 pm. When the line disintegrated into three lines I ended up about 10-15 people further back in line next to David who I met briefly at the Nashville show. We were talking and he asked where he and his brother (Mike) should go to eat. We told them that the area around the arena was pretty shady and so they could come with us. Dave and Mike's seats were next to ours because they were next in line and they were in the same block.

We then eating at the Vortex in Little 5 Points and were heading to the record store (Criminal Records) next door when we passed a store (Junkman's Daughter) with Bush masks and fetish gear in the windows and someone said we should each get one and bring them in. After a short debate, we all got one (best $6.42 we've ever spent). We just wanted to get a laugh from the band or have them point at us or something, mostly from Mike b/c he is so fuckin' cool.

We get to our seats and we are seated in the fifth row on Mike's side. We decided to put the masks on at the beginning of the 1st encore. About 30-40 seconds into "Crown," Mike sees us and starts cracking up. He can't stop looking and laughing. He proceeds to tell Ed after the song, but Ed can't see us, so he tells Jeff, who also starts cracking up. By this time everyone on the side of the stage has noticed us and a number of them start shooting pictures of us. Mike kept trying to get Ed to see us after Black and Alive, but he couldn't see b/c of the lack of light on the audience.

Finally, during the Porch jam, Ed comes over to our side and gets a flashlight from someone on the side. He shines it on us immediately, then security comes down to get us. We go up onto the side of the stage with Pete (their security guy) telling us "don't do anything crazy."

Chris's recollection from the stage:
Off to the side of the stage Ed tells us that we are going to "pick him up." I thought he just meant to follow him out. So we go out and we're dancing while he introduces each of us as George Bush. Then he proceeds to lay across our arms and we lift him up over our heads while he sings the last part of "Porch." I looked over at Stone and he was laughing his ass off the whole time.

Ajay's recollection from the stage:
Ed tells us that we are going to pick him up and I'm freaking out thinking "I hope we don't fucking drop Eddie Vedder." We get up there and as he introduces us we each do a little impromptu dance. The rest of the time is s blur but I remember Eddie getting into our arms straight ahead of us and then one of us I'm not sure who if it was me or someone else starts lifting Eddie above our heads. I was holding his legs, Chris had the feet, Mike had his torso, and Dave had the head/chest. As he gets up he starts singing the rest of Porch and under my mask I'm singing every word with him as loud as I can. I remember spinning around at some point and kowtowing to Mike, Jeff and Matt. I also saw Stone dying laughing. Dave shook Stone's hand and Stone told him “You guys are so cool.” As we put Eddie down he puts up the peace symbol and tells us to do the same which we all do. As we are walking off stage I say to Ed something like “Ed please play, Smile.” Chris says that it was too loud and that he couldn't have heard me.

After the song, we followed Ed off stage and he went down the tunnel and we veered over to the side. We thought we were going to be able to watch from the side, but security led us back to our seats. It was very surreal.

I hope this wasn't too long, but I told you everything I can remember. Just know that we were not planted by the band and this wasn't planned, we were just four morons with masks who got lucky.

Anyone with any pictures please e-mail me at joshiajay AT iwon.com

Thanks,
Ajay

Kevin:

I left where I live in Tallahassee, FL at around 12:30. Stopped a few times to get gas and what not, and arrived in Atlanta around 5ish. paid my 10 DOLLARS (GEESH) in parking at that first lot just off the exit of I-75. Walked over to the Ampitheatre, and waited an hour for the gates to open at 6:30.

It was well worth the wait!!!!! This was my Fourth Pearl Jam concert, my second one in HI-FI Buys Ampitheatre, the site of my first PJ concert back in 1998. I thought that concert was great, but this one was even better!!!!! My seat was in the middle in section 204, row jj seat 17, two rows behind the sound/technical area (I don't know what the real name is). I was directly behind the camera man which gave me a great reason to stay standing the whole time, not like I needed one though.

The band played great through every single song, yeah they messed up once or twice, but hey nobody's perfect. I am not going to go through each song, just tell you some of the high points that I can remember anyway (the drive back to Tallahassee was torture!). During "Even Flow," the guy next to me grabbed me and shook me saying "I love this band!!!!!" I wholeheartedly agreed with him. Just before they started "Small Town" Eddie said they got a call on their cell phone from the people behind this guy who held up an american flag he said "they weren't trying to be unpatriotic or anything, they just couldn't see," that was pretty funny. Then of course during "Porch" when those FOUR (not five) guys in George Bush Jr. masks held Eddie above their heads, that was great!!!!!

Two more things before I go. there was this young couple in front of me, who didn't clap or anything during the entire show, they just held this poster with different bible scriptures on both sides. I don't remember what was written, I just thought it was odd. The other thing I wanted to add was that I have never really been that impressed with the bands that opened for Pearl Jam the other times I had gone, but Sparta really impressed me, I may go buy there cd soon.

Well this was my first ever fanview, I hope I described it well enough for everyone. Oh, one more thing, if you have to smoke pot or get drunk to enjoy a Pearl Jam concert, then you have issues!!!!! I can't wait for the next tour!!!!! Thanks a lot Pearl Jam!!!!!
