April 21, 2003 - Rupp Arena; Lexington, Kentucky
T.: Just my 2 Cents worth... First Kudos to Ten Club! My wife and I had 4th row seats right in front of that crazy guitar god we love! If only the girl with the red cowboy hat wasn't in front of us! Anyway we met some great Jammers in line waiting for our 10 Club tickets. It is so great to see such a diverse group of people loving the same music! Sparta was a great opening band. Stone was out on the left side of the stage watching them and grooving with the rhythm. Great stage presence for such a young group of musicians. I'm going to skip the every-song play by play and give you what were highlights for me. The guy next to us used his $20.00 poster to make a sign requesting 2 songs! Glorified G and Breath... check the set-list! Sweet! The band seemed to be in a "Let's give everyone a souvenir" mood. Mike was throwing picks by the handfuls. Ed threw out at least 10 tambourines. My wife and I each scored a McCready pick. They were yellow with Mike McCready on one side and a Palm tree on the other. Speaking of Mike, Ed made a comment directed towards Mike's guitar. "I wonder what it would be like to be Michael McCready's guitar?" "Oh Fuck not again!" At least it was something like that!
Awesome night, Long Drive home! Cleveland is next for us, See you there! Truman McIntosh: I just returned home from the Lexington show and I am in a state of complete awe. The guys sounded wonderful! This was my first concert for PJ and not for lack of love or anything, just every time they came close before, something always came up. The show opened with Cropduster, followed by Given to Fly and the crowd came alive. Even Flow featured Mike doing his usuall awesome/incredible job on the guitar. At one point in the show Ed took a mirror and with the help of the lighting crew, redirected at spotlight, and shined it around the arena... For the 1st encore Matt and Eddie did a GREAT version of Patriot with Ed on an electric guitar. VERY VERY COOL!!! One of my favorites Glorified G followed later, then Breath and Betterman....I've heard Betterman on the Bootlegs I've bought from the Nov 6 2000 show in Seattle and some other live versions...but actually in person it was beyond belief...Eddie let the crowd sing a bit which I'm sure will turn out awesome on the boot! Wow second encore...can you pick three better songs???? SMILE, FUCKIN UP, and YL...a great ending for an even greater show.....pics to come and soon as possible... Truman McIntosh John Serdenis (jserdenis AT TFCMirror.com): Amazing! Incredible! Outstanding! Fantastic! I can't think of any more superlatives right now. Thanks to the fan club for the INCREDIBLE seats, there is no way we could have had better seats. The starting off with Cropduster was different; I'm beginning to warm up to this song. It kicked into gear with GTF, Corduroy, etc....I was with a friend of mine that hasn't really been into PJ for a while, and he was lovin' every second of it. They should play ½ Full and You Are for every show! Those songs live have balls. The fans were way into the show, and the band really seemed to feed off of it. It was nice to end the first set with Jeremy and Black. The reworked Patriot was interesting, then kicking in to Go, Glorified G, and Breath was great. If they would've just played Breath, that would have been enough for me. Eddie flubbed up the lyrics (of course) to the first verse, but the rest of the song rocked the house. It was as though the night wasn't going to end...but it did and everyone appeared to enjoy themselves and the band. What a night, what a show, what a crowd! Thanks again to the 10 Club for the great seats, it more than made up for the not so great seats to Nashville :-)..... Angie: This was my first Pearl Jam show and it was wonderful. It seems as though I have been anxiously awaiting this night forever. Well, all of the waiting was worth it. Eddie did such a wonderful job, but I have to commend the rest of the band as well. Mike blew the entire arena away as did Jeff, Stone and Matt. My boyfriend, who was not as excited about the show as I was initially, seemed to enjoy the show more than I did. I can't wait to see another live show.
