Frank:
Do the Evolution; hell of an opener. I knew opening with this, it was gonna be a rockin evening regardless of the setlist.
Corduroy; never fails! Mike's solo was amazing, as he was bopping all over the stage.
Save You; rocked!
Deep; I'm not big on this song, but it was great to hear live.
Now Ed greets us "hello Champaign population 63,638" (its a college town, minus U of I and there's at best 10,000 locals).
Dissident; just a wee bit warmer than on Touring Band.
Elderly Woman; intros the song as "for people in Gurnee." (where Six Flags Great America is). someone apparently cheers and Ed goes "Nah they ain't from Gurnee, if they were you wouldn't admit it."
Even Flow; one of the lengthier jams I've ever heard. mike's solo was AMAZING! toward the end of mike's solo, someone throws Ed their camera, he takes a picture of Jeff and Mike and throws it right back to the fan.
Jeremy; crowd favorite, he lets us sing the last "whoa's."
Thumbing My Way; a lot of people went for a piss/cigarette during this song- bastids.
You Are; I love this song, and it featured a hellava light show as well.
I Am Mine; intro'd as a song about being safe, seemed to be the best received song from riot ac.
Habit; great intro from Ed "all right this is for all you meth heads out there." Prolly the only song I could have done without, only No Code song.
Untitled; untitled includes the lyrics "lets get to Chicago, we can talk politics, this whole worlds confused, we get it all from our news" and its "23 minutes or so," obviously a Jordan reference.
MFC; Mike is running all over the stage for this one.
Given to Fly; meh, woulda rathered faithful, but the crowd really liked this one.
Nothingman; great sing along here.
Blood; rocking version, and the stage is bathed with red spotlights.
Porch; very extended jam here- Mike AND Stone both have solo's. The crowd on Stone's side was trying to coax Ed into climbing the lighting rig. he had the mic in his hand. Looked up at the rig- he was thinking about it.
Encore: Ed comes out and says "Ok we'll still play. We don't have class tomorrow, do you? 'Class, my ass' I used to say" just as the band is ready to play, a small chant of "Stone, Stone" gets the spotlight on him, which leads to a cover that I have never heard before.
Driven to Tears
Betterman; Crowd sings the 2nd verse, Mike and even Ed have nice little solos.
Crazy Mary; this song was like a bomb- BOOM! the man was amazing. this one had to be at least 8-10 minutes long, which prompted me to yell out ala homer Simpson, 'Its like the Allman Brothers'. Boom had an unreal solo, and as usual was Mike's Stairway To Heaven tag.
Know Your Rights; "Professor Vedder" intro's this song as "ok class, here is a history lesson for you.
Fortunate Son; and the covers kept coming and coming, just when I thought that's it, they switch guitars for another song!
Encore 2: Ed comes out and nods to the ovation, then looks around and realizes that he is the only one out there and is kind of shocked. he talks about how soon forget was "inspired by a who song...no who am i kidding it was fuckin stolen from a who song" which draws a big laugh from the crowd. the he goes "we've always been about open debate" and requests get shouted out left and right. then Ed says "but its a done deal, the ballot is in." just as he's ready to play on the uke, someone shouts out 'ledbetter' and Ed replies "hey, hold your horses, and shut the fuck up. see we were gonna do more, and now we're not. that's just the way we are." Ed talks about Pete Townshend being a hero "and that Pete loves Chicago." and some people shout that we are in Champaign. Ed kinda smiles and says "well ok he loves all of Illinois."
Blue Red Gray; after much dialogue, played dedicated to Pete Townshend.
Black; again Mike is on fire with the solo. Ed holds out the "beeeee" for a really long time.
Alive; crowd really loves this, Ed is walking back and forth between the sides of the stage, Mike solo's behind his head for a bit.
Baba O'Riley; Keely had the house lights, and the WHOLE PLACE was po-go ing to this one. ed must have destroyed 4 tambourines and threw them to the crowd. at songs end, Mike and Jeff do an Irish jig.
I just got back home. UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE! tonite's show was actually unhealthy it was so good. i know the main set isn't really anything special, but opening with evolution, man. the bad just had so much energy. mike was on fire tonite, bouncing all over the stage. jeff jumped a whole lot, Stone was doing his dorky moves all over as well. and ed's voice was great even tho this was the 3rd nite in a row they played.
Also, this crowd was fucking great. Singing, and clapping. They really were into just about EVERY song and the no smoking policy in this venue made it that much more enjoyable. I lost some of my hearing, my voice, and a lot of sleep tonite- but it was so very well worth it!
Andy Georgevich:
My first Pearl Jam concert and all I have to say is WOW. It was everything I thought it would be and so much more. Some of the highlights from the show for me were.... Opening with Do the Evolution was awesome because it got the crowd rockin right away.... You Are is simply unbelievable with the lights that were going along with it..... Given to Fly was one of the songs I wanted to hear most and it was great to hear.... Crazy Mary was intense with the keyboardist Boom going absolutely nuts....and Alive was the best song of the show I didn't think they were gonna play it and that song is Pearl Jam to me. I cant wait to see them again at Alpine Valley June 21st
